Understanding the resources available to support people living with disabilities is important. Be sure to check this out and see if you or a loved one may be eligibile.
Common examples of conditions that may qualify include:
Alzheimer's disease/other dementias
Parkinson's disease
Multiple sclerosis (MS)
Autism spectrum disorder (especially when daily functioning is severely affected)
Intellectual disabilities
Down syndrome
Traumatic brain injury
Stroke with lasting impairments
Severe vision loss or legal blindness
Severe hearing loss
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
Spinal cord injuries and paralysis
Severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Cystic fibrosis
Severe heart failure
Permanent colostomy or similar conditions
Type 1 diabetes requiring life-sustaining therapy
Qualifying depends on how much a condition restricts daily living—not simply the diagnosis.
