Painting outside is so much more than creating art. It helps build fine motor skills, encourages creativity, supports sensory exploration, strengthens little muscles, and connects children with nature—all while having fun! These open-ended experiences where the focus is on exploration, confidence, and enjoying the process rather than the final masterpiece teaches children about how to get to the end vs. focusing on the end.

Jurassic Park called... they want their scientists back!

This mission: erupt volcanoes and see if our tiny dinosaurs could survive the lava!

There were lots of questions, and a few brave dinos who somehow survived every eruption. 😂

While it looked like pure fun, these little explorers were busy learning about cause and effect, making predictions, observing chemical reactions, building language skills, and using their imaginations every step of the way.

Learning through play is always a favorite around here!

Today our little learners matched colours, counted objects, recognized numbers, and strengthened their problem-solving skills—all while thinking they were just playing and racing their "bum scooters" to catch the same color items around the dayhome.

The best part? Watching those proud little smiles when they figure it out all by themselves. Those "I found it!" Or "I got 4 yellow bananas" moments are what make learning so magical.

We hit the pause button on our summer adventures today and snuck in a little learning... and believe it or not, the kids were actually excited for math! 🤯 Who are these tiny humans?!

Watching some of our 2-year-olds reach milestones that are often expected later is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. I love having a mixed age classroom! Every child learns at their own pace, and in a dayhome setting we have the flexibility to build strong foundations without putting a ceiling on what they're capable of.

Whether they're counting, problem-solving, exploring, or simply discovering that learning can be fun, every little moment adds up to something big.

I can't wait to see just how far these amazing kiddos will go.

Today's invitation was simple: paint some nature sticks.

The children had other plans...

Apparently, the real activity was washing the table! 😂

What started as a painting project quickly turned into scrubbing, wiping, splashing, and lots of giggles. And honestly? We loved every second of it.

Sometimes the best learning happens when children follow their own curiosity. Today they explored creativity, teamwork, fine motor skills, sensory play, and practical life skills—all because they decided a clean table was far more exciting than painted sticks.

It's a great reminder that in child-led learning, the process is always more important than the product.

I had the opportunity to sit down with The Educators Table and share the heart behind Gumdrop Daycare.

If you've ever wondered what makes our program different, why I chose this career, or what I hope children take away from their time here, this podcast is for you.

Whether you're a current Gumdrop family, considering childcare, one of my personal networks or you're simply passionate about early childhood education, I'd love for you to give it a listen and follow along to support The Educators Table!

If it resonates with you, I'd be so grateful if you shared it with another family who might enjoy learning more about what we do.

Our little learners explored a ladybug-themed rice sensory bin, and it was so much more than just play. As they scooped, poured, searched, and discovered, they were building fine motor skills, strengthening hand muscles for future writing, developing problem-solving skills, and engaging their imaginations through open-ended exploration.

Sensory play invites children to slow down, focus, create, and learn through hands-on experiences—one of the best ways young minds make sense of the world around them.

At Gumdrop Daycare, we believe learning should be playful, meaningful, and filled with wonder

This was such a fun surprise for the kids! There's something special about giving children the opportunity to explore the real world with their own hands. Today, our Gumdrop family got an up-close look at a skid steer—what it is, how it works, and the important jobs it helps people do every day.

Children learn best when they can see, touch, ask questions, and experience the world around them. Books and toys are wonderful, but nothing compares to standing beside a real skid steer and discovering how it works firsthand. These experiences spark curiosity, inspire future dreams, and help children make meaningful connections between what they learn and the world they live in.

Today wasn't just about a machine—it was about growing curious minds, building confidence, and showing our Tiny Tots that learning can happen anywhere.
