Just a bunch of kids getting to the root of creativity 😍 We had a tree-mendous time turning ordinary sticks into works of art on such a beautiful day

Nature. Why do we spend so much time outdoors? Because nature offers some of the richest learning opportunities for young children.

During our nature walks, children develop confidence, problem-solving skills, language, coordination, and a sense of wonder about the world around them. Whether we're searching for insects, observing seasonal changes, or simply exploring new paths, every outing encourages curiosity, independence, and meaningful hands-on learning.

Many of the kids here come from daycares or home environments where parents complain of a lack of emotional regulation or children's overstimulation and feeling of burn out. This is very common- even I feel this when I'm in environments that feel busy. I believe outdoor exploration isn't an occasional activity—it's an important part of our daily program. Our Montessori and forest school-inspired approach helps children build real-life skills while enjoying the freedom to learn through play, movement, and discovery. This all happens in a calmer one on one environment without the chaos of a larger group setting.

True learning focused on each child's foundation so we can build on it. Our littles are precious and deserve that care instead of being just a number.

And just like that, another school year comes to a close.

What a year it's been—filled with muddy boots, nature walks, endless questions, new friendships, big milestones, and so many memories that will stay with us long after the toys are put away.

To all of my wonderful families, thank you for trusting me with your little ones and allowing me to be part of their journey. Watching them grow, learn, and gain confidence has been the greatest privilege.

Now it's time for a summer full of adventure, sunshine, and outdoor learning before we welcome a new season together.

Signing off for the school year and looking forward to all the magic September will bring.

Have a wonderful summer, everyone!

Love, Ms. Jess 🌈

Nature became our paintbrush today!

Using leaves to paint is a simple yet engaging way to encourage creativity, fine motor development, sensory exploration, and a deeper connection with the natural world. Each leaf created its own unique patterns and textures, inspiring curiosity, imagination, and plenty of conversation along the way.

At Gumdrop Daycare, we love finding creative ways to blend art, nature, and learning through play.

Our chick hatch project has officially come to life!

Watching these tiny chicks emerge from their eggs has been such a magical experience for the children. From candling the eggs and learning about the incubation process to finally meeting the chicks, this hands-on activity sparked so much curiosity, wonder, and excitement.

This was a wonderful dayhome activity because it encouraged patience, observation, responsibility, and a deeper understanding of the life cycle. The children asked thoughtful questions, made predictions, and experienced science in a meaningful, real-world way.

There is nothing quite like seeing learning come to life right before their eyes! Such a full circle moment 🥺

From egg to chick — what an incredible journey!

After weeks of careful turning, warmth, and waiting, our little chicks have finally hatched. The children have loved observing every stage of the incubation process and learning about life cycles firsthand.

There were lots of excited squeals, curious questions, and wide-eyed wonder as each fluffy chick made its big debut. Moments like these are what make hands-on learning so magical over generic toy play.

Stay tuned for more!

Our little squad of preschoolers are officially graduates!

Watching these children grow, learn, and blossom has been one of the greatest joys. We are so proud of each and every one of them as they begin their next adventure.

Kindergarten, here they come!

Today the children were so excited to spot tiny veins, movement, and growing air sacs — such a beautiful hands-on learning experience!

We will be officially entering the final phase of incubation, also known as “lockdown" on Friday.

During this stage:
• the eggs stop being turned
• humidity is increased
• the chicks begin positioning themselves for hatch day

I'm hoping we get them all hatched on Friday/Monday so the kids can see the process 🤞🏾

This has been such a special opportunity for the children to learn about life cycles, responsibility, patience (this was a tough one), and caring for living things through real-world experiences.
