This test assesses the Vestibular-Ocular Reflex, which is a reflex in your vestibular system. Part of the purpose of our vestibular system is to stabilize your gaze, which means when you turn your head your eyes can reflexively stay on a target.

Imagine the different between a normal Hollywood blockbuster and an artsy film where the person videoing is walking around and you can fee the camera bobbing up at down as you watch, and can make you feel nauseous. One is stabilized, the second is not.

If this is not working it can often make people feel dizzy, nauseous, headachey, off balance, etc.

If you are losing track of your thumb or it is making you feel not great, it’s likely time to get more help and get a more thorough assessment completed!

Lots of people have brain fog, nausea, headaches, etc, that they just contribute to aging. Sometimes that is not the case! You might still have some of these issues that are driving symptoms years later.

This test is called “convergence”. It measured the eyes ability to work together to see nearby things like your phone or computer. If you have issues or symptoms with screens or reading this could be a reason why.

If this is more than 5cm or you had symptoms with this test I would recommend you see a concussion physio or an optometrist for further assessment.
