🍂 HELLO SEPTEMBER! 🍂

With the BER months upon us, the crisp feel of fall in the air, and routines getting back underway, Connected Healing Acupuncture is making PAIN AWARENESS the theme for September.

As the temperatures drop and the cooler weather arrives, some people may notice an increase in aches, stiffness, and pain—especially those living with arthritis or chronic pain.

A special thank you to Sam at Forever Roam Massage for recommending my services and helping spread the word about Connected Healing Acupuncture! ❤️

Throughout September, I’ll be sharing more about the services I offer and how acupuncture may help support pain management, along with highlighting some of the most commonly used acupuncture points for pain in my Acupuncture Point of the Week series.

Stay tuned throughout the month for helpful information, acupuncture education, and ways acupuncture may be able to support you through the changing season. 🌿

Let’s make September about understanding pain, supporting your body, and finding ways to move through fall feeling your best. 🍂🍁

💜 LET’S TALK ABOUT PELVIC FLOOR PHYSIOTHERAPY 💜

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a service I find myself recommending to clients more and more. But unless you’ve needed it before, you might not know what it actually involves, who it’s for, or why your massage therapist might suggest it.

And no… pelvic floor physio isn’t just doing Kegels! 😉

💜 WHAT IS YOUR PELVIC FLOOR?

Your pelvic floor is a group of muscles and connective tissues that sit at the bottom of your pelvis. These muscles work together with your core, diaphragm, hips and low back and help with:

• Bladder and bowel control
• Core and pelvic stability
• Sexual function
• Supporting the pelvic organs
• Pregnancy and postpartum recovery
• Managing pressure throughout your abdomen and pelvis

Just like any other muscles, your pelvic floor can become weak, tight, painful, overactive or poorly coordinated.

💜 WHAT DOES PELVIC FLOOR PHYSIOTHERAPY DO?

A pelvic health physiotherapist has additional training to assess the pelvic floor and how it works together with the rest of your body.

Treatment can include:

• Strengthening OR relaxing the pelvic floor
• Breathing and pressure-management techniques
• Core and hip strengthening
• Mobility exercises
• Manual therapy
• Scar tissue treatment
• Bladder and bowel education
• Treatment strategies for pelvic pain and muscle tension
• Home exercise programs
• Guidance for returning to exercise and everyday activities

An internal pelvic floor assessment may be recommended when appropriate, but it should always be discussed with you first and requires your consent. There are also external assessment and treatment options.

💜 WHO COULD BENEFIT?

Pelvic floor physiotherapy may be worth exploring if you’re dealing with:

🚽 Leaking when coughing, sneezing, laughing, lifting or exercising
🚽 Urinary urgency or frequent urination
💩 Constipation or difficulty emptying your bowels
⚡ Pelvic, groin, ge***al or tailbone pain
❤️ Pain with in*******se or pe*******on
🤰 Pregnancy-related pelvic or low-back pain
👶 Postpartum recovery or concerns
⬇️ Pelvic pressure, heaviness or prolapse symptoms
🦴 Persistent hip, pelvic or low-back pain
💪 Core dysfunction
🩹 Recovery after certain pelvic, abdominal or prostate surgeries
🌸 Menopause/perimenopause-related pelvic concerns

And an important reminder:

Pelvic floor physiotherapy isn’t just for women and it isn’t just for people who have had babies.

💜 PLEASE DON’T ASSUME YOU JUST NEED MORE KEGELS!

A problematic pelvic floor isn’t necessarily a weak pelvic floor.

Sometimes these muscles are actually too tight or overactive and need help learning how to relax and coordinate properly.

Doing more strengthening isn’t always the answer. An assessment helps determine what your pelvic floor actually needs.

WHY WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS AS YOUR MASSAGE THERAPIST?

As an RMT, I can work with many of the surrounding areas that may contribute to your symptoms, including the low back, hips, glutes and abdomen.

But sometimes massage is only one piece of the puzzle. 🧩

If your symptoms suggest that the pelvic floor itself may be involved, a pelvic health physiotherapist has specialized training and assessment tools that go beyond what I can provide as an RMT.

Sometimes the best treatment isn’t another massage. It’s getting the right healthcare professional involved in your care.

📍 WHERE CAN YOU GO?

Unfortunately, pelvic floor physiotherapy isn’t readily available here in Flin Flon, so I wanted to share three pelvic health physiotherapists who have been recommended to me.

💜 YOU DON’T HAVE TO JUST LIVE WITH IT.

Leaking, pelvic pressure, pain, discomfort or difficulty with bladder and bowel function may be common, but that doesn’t mean they should simply be accepted as a normal part of aging, pregnancy, having children or everyday life.

If you’ve talked to me about any of these concerns and I’ve suggested pelvic floor physio, this is why.

I’m always happy to help point you in the right direction. 💜

🌿 A Quick Update from Forever Roam Massage Therapy

As my practice continues to stay busy, I’m making a small change to help simplify the administrative side of running a solo practice.

Going forward, direct billing will no longer be available for NEW clients.

New clients will be required to pay for their treatment in full at the time of their appointment. You will still receive an official massage therapy receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

✨ Current established clients: If I currently direct bill for you, nothing is changing at this time. I will continue to offer direct billing to my existing clients.

This change allows me to spend a little less time behind the computer dealing with insurance companies and a little more time focused on what I’m actually here to do: taking care of my clients. 🌿

Thank you for understanding and for continuing to support my small business!

🌿 LOOKING FOR ANOTHER OPTION FOR RELIEF? 🌿

Things have been incredibly busy at Forever Roam Massage Therapy, and while I am so grateful to have such a full schedule, I also know that pain and discomfort don’t exactly wait patiently for an appointment. 💛

I wanted to shine a spotlight on another local practitioner and another treatment option available right here in Flin Flon:

✨ CONNECTED HEALING ACUPUNCTURE ✨
Kristin Murray, Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac.)
📍 31 Church Street, Flin Flon

So… what exactly IS acupuncture?

If you’ve never tried it, acupuncture can sound a little intimidating. But these aren’t the same type of needles you picture when you think about getting blood drawn or having an injection.

Acupuncture is a practice originating in Traditional Chinese Medicine that has been used for thousands of years. It involves placing extremely thin, sterile needles at carefully selected points on the body.

From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, treatment is based on looking at the body as a whole and identifying patterns of imbalance rather than focusing only on the area where you’re experiencing symptoms.

From a modern scientific perspective, researchers believe acupuncture may affect the nervous system, the way the brain processes pain, and the tissues around where the needles are placed. We still don’t completely understand every mechanism involved, but acupuncture has been studied extensively and has evidence supporting its use for certain types of pain.

People commonly explore acupuncture for concerns such as:

🌿 Back & neck pain
🌿 Joint and muscular pain
🌿 Headaches
🌿 Chronic or persistent pain
🌿 Muscle tension
🌿 Stress and general wellness

And acupuncture doesn’t necessarily mean needles alone!

Kristin also offers:

⚡ Electro-acupuncture – A small, controlled electrical current is applied between acupuncture needles to provide additional stimulation.

🔥 Cupping – Cups create suction against the skin and soft tissues. If you’ve ever seen those perfectly round marks after cupping, that’s where they come from!

✨ Gua Sha – A smooth-edged tool is moved along the skin as a form of traditional therapeutic bodywork.

One of the things I love about having different practitioners in our community is that we don’t all have to do the same thing. Massage may work wonderfully for one person, acupuncture may be another person’s missing puzzle piece, and sometimes having different options available is exactly what someone needs.

So if you’ve been waiting to get in for a massage, you’re dealing with ongoing discomfort, or you’ve simply been curious about acupuncture, this might be a great opportunity to explore something different.

☀️ Just a heads up to all of my wonderful clients!

I’ll be taking some time away to enjoy my summer holidays and recharge. The clinic will be closed August 1 through August 17, and I’ll be back in the office on Tuesday, August 18.

With summer in full swing, most appointment times are already booked. If you’re hoping to get in before the end of the season or shortly after I return, be sure to add yourself to the waitlist. It’s the best way to be notified if an appointment becomes available due to a cancellation.

During my holidays, I’ll be stepping away from my phone to fully enjoy my time off. All phone calls, text messages, and other inquiries will be returned once I return on Tuesday, August 18.

Thank you so much for your patience, understanding, and continued support. I truly appreciate each and every one of you and look forward to seeing you when I’m back in the clinic.

Have a safe, relaxing, and wonderful summer! ☀️🌿
