🤱 Living in the North and in Manitoba already subjects us to subpar Healthcare especially when it comes to women's health. Sharing your story not only helps you to heal but will also help towards something bigger, the more stories they receive the more chance of making a difference for future birthing people. 🤱
ASK Therapy is running a Listening Campaign for Moms/Birthing people who had their babies during the pandemic. Jennifer is a registered therapist, who will listen to your stories and support you through revisiting your pregnancy, labor & birth and postpartum experience. Birth can be hard and traumatizing and postpartum can also be super hard without a pandemic to add to the stress. Their goal is to get a minimum of 100 to a maximum of 1000 stories. In collecting these stories they want to paint a picture of how the pandemic has effected the mental health of moms/birthing people with real life data. They also want to be able to provide suggestions of ways to prevent these things from happening going forward. They will use the data collected to approach government officials and healthcare authorities.
Some of the ways the pandemic could have caused additional stress on you and your supports are:
🤰Not being able to access in person prenatal services
🤱Fear or anxiety of contracting COVID-19 while pregnant
🤰Increased stress of wearing a mask
👶Not receiving routine tests or check ups because the services were suspended due to COVID-19
🧑🍼Your partner or support person not being allowed to attend ultrasounds with you
👨🍼Not being allowed to have your partner or support person with you during appointments or emergent visits to the hospital during pregnancy
🤰Being required to wear a mask during delivery
🧑🍼Not being allowed to have your partner or birthing person with you while in labor
🤱Being required to have a COVID-19 test before being admitted to the hospital while in labor
👩🍼If you avoided going to the hospital during pregnancy when you should have or during early labor due to anxiety or fear of being exposed to COVID-19
👶If you felt lonely or cut off from the world because you weren't allowed to have family or friends come to your home during COVID-19
🤱If you felt isolated because there wasn't any community supports available to you during COVID-19
If you feel your pregnancy, birth or postpartum experience was affected by COVID-19 in any way not matter how big or small your story is worth sharing.
