Honoring (Guy) Francois
When I reflect back to 2005, when I first met (Guy) Francois, he was in the early stages of recovery. What began as a friendship gradually grew into a lifelong partnership, and over the years I have had the privilege of witnessing an incredible journey of resilience, growth, and dedication.
Guy often shared stories of his life experiences—the challenges he faced while living on the streets, his time spent incarcerated, and the impact of being the youngest in his family. Rather than allowing those experiences to define him, he chose to learn from them and use them as motivation to become a better man in his sobriety.
After spending nearly 25 years in addiction, Guy understood that recovery meant more than abstinence—it meant learning how to build a stable and meaningful life. He sought guidance wherever he could find it, asking questions, listening closely, and remaining open to learning. His determination and humility became the foundation of his success.
When given the opportunity to return to school, Guy embraced it wholeheartedly. In 2009, he graduated from the Carrier Language Teaching Diploma Program. This achievement marked the beginning of a profound commitment to preserving and sharing Carrier language and culture. Inspired and guided by his father, who taught him Carrier syllabics, Guy immersed himself in learning the language. His passion has never wavered. To this day, he continues to read, study, and practice diligently so that he can strengthen his fluency and pass that knowledge on to others.
Today, Guy is a respected and valued language teacher. Communities, organizations, businesses, government agencies, and individuals seek his knowledge and expertise. He develops worksheets, language books, and curriculum, and he teaches with both skill and heart. Through his efforts, he is helping to preserve language, culture, and identity for future generations.
Beyond his accomplishments, Guy is a man of humility, integrity, compassion, and respect. He is caring, loving, and deeply committed to his family. He is a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who leads by example and demonstrates the power of personal transformation.
Today, we honor Guy not only for his knowledge and achievements, but for the dedication and perseverance that made them possible. His commitment to sobriety, lifelong learning, cultural preservation, and service to others is an inspiration to all who know him. His journey reminds us that with courage, determination, and purpose, it is possible to transform adversity into a legacy that uplifts generations.
Let us celebrate and honor Guy (Francois) for the wisdom he shares, the lives he touches, and the remarkable example he continues to set every day.

In my life and work I have noticed that the understanding in healing is seen and there's a mental clear understanding of what's historical and intergenerational trauma and behaviors. I see that Sometimes in our healing, we come to understand what healthy looks like.

We learn the words, the behaviours, the right ways to respond. And we can share it… we can explain it… it makes sense in our minds.

But living it—especially in hard moments—
that’s a different kind of work. In our healing, many of us have learned what healthy looks like. We can speak it. We understand it.
But applying it in real moments… when we’re triggered, hurt, or challenged… that’s a different kind of strength.

Healing isn’t just awareness.
It’s practice. It’s patience. It’s unlearning.
And we’re all somewhere in that journey.

Our historical and intergenerational behaviors were survival, we learned generation after generation how to disconnect our emotions keeping mental the ability to move through without connection.

My sobriety
I have struggled the first couple years were challenging, seeing others enjoying the party, thinking I'm missing out. Then there were the mind fights ... The intrusive thoughts of overthinking my life trauma events, and my inability to feel or be confident without a boost of outside of myself. The beginning was just one day at a time, fight and keep pushing myself. The work to keep myself whole was, trauma treatment ... See myself, my childhood my battles inside and what to do or how to reframe my thoughts and beliefs.
As each day went by the fight became less and less ... Before too long it was 1 year, then 5 then 10 to today 23 year clean on Easter weekend! Through those years I have learned to reframe my thoughts ..... Face my past, rise above my inability to see my worth and to be the change ... and help others find their change... It's not an easy road in the beginning but worth it to have freedoms and live life💕

Thought.....
A slip is a crack in the pavement, not the end of the road. It feels heavy because it interrupts your peace, but it doesn't erase the miles you’ve already walked; it simply reveals a spot that needs more care.
The moment you choose to pick yourself up and keep moving, you are practicing the very resilience that eventually creates your natural rhythm. Each time you choose recovery over regret, you stop fighting against your past and start flowing with your present. This shift is where the magic happens: sobriety stops being a chore you manage and starts being the beautiful awareness of truly experiencing life. You move from the exhaustion of just surviving into the freedom of actually living, where every breath is a conscious, empowered self choice.

I made a conscious decision to break generational traumas and be the change I wanted to see ..... Walk my talk and embarrass the trust in the process!
Always with much love and respect.
