Part 1/2:
There has been lots of speculations as to why I’m closing my doors. I gave most people a cookie cutter answer because I was unsure of how much to truly share. A lot of people think it was because of moving to Calgary & there being too much competition. Of course there is more competition here but also a lot more opportunity to grow. This was not my reasoning at all.
Only a handful of people knew that I’ve been contemplating to close for the last 1.5 years. And this wasn’t because of a ‘lack of success’ as some have questioned.
Truthfully, the business has nearly hit 6 figures the last 2 years!!
So here’s the truth:
I started this business during the middle of Covid, with the intention to have it as a stepping stone towards something else (an unknown something else).
When I started, I had applied for a business license for a product based business without knowing what I was going to sell. All I knew was I wanted to make money.
I wish I had one of those stories that I was passionate about making product so I decided to sell it but that’s not the case at all.
Did I become passionate about my business? ABSOLUTELY! Especially the videos & writing portion & learning aspect.
Although my business began to make a decent profit, I had realized 2 years in that I either had to grow enough to have employees OR quit in order to be able to live the life I wanted to be living. So I began to push to grow my business even further and quickly realized that this wasn’t the TYPE of business I wanted to have.
Owning a business like this, I’ve been unable to take more than 2 weeks off at a time (and that was pushing it) to be able to keep up with production, the stores stocked, the back end of everything, social media, etc.
As some of you know, I was a BIG traveller post covid/post business and I felt like I was unable to have that part of my life to the extent that I desire with owning a product based business.
I always knew this business would be a stepping stone towards some type of business that was more remote and allowed me to travel more.
Although, at this point in time, I have no clue what’s the next move (which is both freeing & terrifying at the same time).
