📚 **Book Recommendation: *Maybe You Should Talk to Someone***

If you’ve ever wondered what therapy is really like, this is a book I often recommend.

Written by therapist Lori Gottlieb, it offers a heartfelt and often humorous look at the therapy experience—from both sides of the couch. After facing her own unexpected life challenges, she finds herself becoming a therapy client while continuing to support her own clients.

One of the biggest takeaways? Seeking support isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s an act of courage. We all experience moments when life feels overwhelming, uncertain, or simply too heavy to carry alone.

Therapy isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about having a safe space to explore your thoughts, understand your emotions, and move toward the life you want.

Whether you’re considering counselling, currently in therapy, or simply enjoy a good read, this book is well worth adding to your reading list.

💙 Have you read it? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

**🪑 Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is simply sit down.**

We often wait until we’re completely exhausted before giving ourselves permission to rest. But our nervous system usually starts sending us signals long before we reach burnout.

**🧠 5 Signs Your Nervous System May Be Asking for Rest**

🌿 **1. You feel exhausted, even after sleeping.**
Rest isn’t only about getting enough sleep—it’s also about feeling safe enough for your mind and body to recover.

🌿 **2. You’re easily irritated or overwhelmed.**
When your nervous system is under chronic stress, even small inconveniences can feel like too much.

🌿 **3. You can’t seem to “switch off.”**
Your mind keeps racing, you replay conversations, or your to-do list runs on a loop—even when you’re trying to relax.

🌿 **4. Your body feels tense.**
Tight shoulders, headaches, jaw clenching, stomach discomfort, or feeling constantly “on edge” can all be signs that your body has been carrying stress for too long.

🌿 **5. You’re withdrawing from things you normally enjoy.**
When we’re overwhelmed, it’s common to pull back from hobbies, social connections, or activities that usually bring us joy.

💚 If any of these sound familiar, know that you don’t have to wait until you’re completely burned out before seeking support. Small, intentional steps toward rest and self-care can make a meaningful difference, and therapy can help you better understand and respond to what your nervous system needs.

✨ **Which of these signs resonates with you the most?**

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

We’re excited to welcome back Ritual & Story to Brookside Wellness Centre this fall!

This iteration asks participants one key question: Who are you beneath your job title?

In a culture that often measures our worth by productivity, achievement, and performance, it can be easy to lose sight of who we are beyond what we do.

Join writer Angie Landry for Beneath the Job Title: Reclaiming Ourselves Beyond Productivity, a six-week storytelling and reflection series exploring identity, worth, rest, care, and what it means to be a human being rather than a human doing.

Together, participants will explore:
* Identity beyond work and achievement
* The stories we’ve inherited about success and worth
* Rest, care, and the impact of productivity culture
* Connection through storytelling and shared reflection
* Rituals that honour our intrinsic value and humanity

Through storytelling, reflective practice, ritual, and feminist ways of knowing, this series offers a welcoming space to reconnect with the deeper qualities that make us who we are.

Together, we’ll ask: Who am I when I am not defined by what I produce?

Rather than asking how we can do more, this series invites us to remember that we are already enough.

Registration is now open! Reserve your spot here: https://forms.gle/K2i3tBJzfS99LDFy6

✨ Friday Wellness Tip ✨

As you head into the weekend, try giving yourself permission to **slow down before you completely run out of energy.**

Many of us spend the week pushing through — meeting responsibilities, caring for others, solving problems, and staying in “go mode.” The weekend doesn’t have to become another checklist to complete.

Try choosing one small thing that helps your nervous system reset:
🌿 Take a walk outside
☕ Enjoy your coffee without rushing
📵 Step away from your phone for a little while
🐾 Spend time with someone (or something) that brings you joy
😴 Prioritize rest without feeling guilty

Rest isn’t something you have to earn. It’s part of caring for yourself.

Wishing you a peaceful weekend from all of us at A.M. Wellness Therapy 💙

I'm excited to share that I've completed my Diploma in Compassion Fatigue Management as part of my Veterinary Social Work certification journey.

Compassion fatigue, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress don't just affect those in human helping professions—they also have a profound impact on veterinary professionals, animal welfare workers, and pet owners navigating difficult decisions and grief.

This training has deepened my understanding of how to better support those who dedicate their lives to caring for animals, while also strengthening the work I do with individuals experiencing pet loss, caregiver stress, and the powerful human-animal bond.

Learning never stops, and I'm grateful for every opportunity to grow so I can provide the best possible care to those I serve.

💙 Every new skill is another way to support healing.
