We often recognize that knowing what skills you bring to the workplace is vital to job searching. But it can be just as important to create an environment that actually supports those skills and lets you focus & decompress.

If you’re feeling stuck, creating a sense of order in your space can be the ‘reset’ you need to move forward. We’re exploring the surprising science of how ‘tidying up’ can physically and mentally reset you, lowering your anxiety and giving you some of the clarity you need to tackle your next career goal. Swipe to see how polishing your physical (or digital!) space can help you polish your professional approach.

🌿Beyond the Rejection: Navigating the Nervous System’s Reaction 🌿
A “thank you, but...” email can feel like a physical blow. For those with Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD), this isn’t “being too sensitive.” It’s a neurological response to perceived professional setbacks.
RSD in the Workplace - Examples of Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria:
The Interview: Ruminating for days over one small “mistake” you think you made.
The Feedback: Feeling a deep sense of shame when a manager suggests a tiny correction.
The Silence: Assuming the worst when an employer doesn’t email you back immediately.
The “Threat” Response - Why it hurts so much:
For those of us with mental health concerns, trauma, and/or neurodivergence, the brain can’t always tell the difference between a “job rejection” and “social exclusion.” Your body enters survival mode to protect you from the pain. It’s a shield, even if it feels like a heavy one.
Navigating the Impact - Strategies for addressing the “threat”:
Name it: “This is RSD talking, not the truth of my worth.”
The 24-Hour Rule: Give yourself permission to feel the physiological response fully for one day before trying to “fix” or analyze the situation.
Co-Regulation: Reach out to a safe person who can hold space for you while you process the weight of the feedback.
Redefining Success
At Let’s Work, we believe your value is inherent. A “no” from an employer is a data point about them and their specific needs. It’s not a measurement of your worth or your potential. We provide a safe space to process the highs and lows of the working world. You don’t have to carry the weight of “no” alone.

Honoring Your Capacity
Some days, job searching feels like a mountain you’re struggling to climb. When you feel pushed to your limit or starting to shut down, it’s a sign to shift your pace. Let’s look at your Window of Tolerance and how it helps you navigate the climb.
The Window of Tolerance: What is your “Window”?
Developed by Dr. Dan Siegel, the Window of Tolerance describes the space where we can lean into challenges without becoming overwhelmed. It’s not about “powering through.” It’s about noticing when our nervous system feels safe enough to engage.
When the Window Feels Small: Hyper-arousal
Trauma or chronic stress can make our window feel very narrow. You might feel: On edge before an interview, an urgency to apply to everything. It’s okay to pause. A five-minute breathing exercise or a short walk can help bring you back to a place of mental safety.
Finding Your Way Back Online: Hypo-arousal
Sometimes the brain protects us by hitting “pause.” This isn’t a failure; it’s your system asking for a gentler pace. You might feel: Heavy or “stuck” sensation, Disconnected or foggy feeling. Be kind to yourself. Try noticing small “glimmers” to gently signal safety to your body.
Expanding the Window, Gently: Where Growth Happens
We don’t “force” the window open; we expand it by: Setting tiny, manageable goals (e.g., “I’ll open one job board today”), practicing self-compassion when we feel “pushed out” of our window. Remind yourself often that your worth is not defined by your productivity.
REMEMBER: YOUR PACE IS THE RIGHT PACE. At Let’s Work, we prioritize your nervous system as part of the process. We’re here to help you navigate your career path while honouring yourself along the way.
