An Exoskeleton is used for eligible patients to improve walking strength, endurance, and to decrease risk of fall. The robotic suit wraps around the patient to provide support following injury or trauma (stroke, spinal cord injury) to help patients safely regain mobility and independence.

“The ability to move – to stand up, sit down, walk – is important for our health, daily activities, and quality of life. For persons with weakness or paralysis, exoskeleton assisted mobility can greatly advance a person's rehabilitation, literally supporting those important steps to recovery.” Dr Colleen O’Connell, SCCR

The Chalmers Foundation is excited to share that we have received a Community Development Grant from Canadian Tire Jumpstart. This grant allowed 10 pediatric patients at Horizon Health Network/Réseau de santé Horizon's Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation to be assessed for adapted bikes & trikes in April.

Since merging with the Stan Cassidy Foundation in 2020, the Chalmers Foundation has provided over 35 adapted bikes for patients with disabilities. An adapted cycle can cost between $4000-$8000 and funding is not available through any other programs (insurance, medicare, etc).

This program offers pediatric patients independent mobility – even patients who use wheelchairs can get fitted for an adapted bike to participate in summer recreational fun with their families and friends.

The Chalmers Foundation is grateful for the assistance from Canadian Tire Jumpstart!

"As a healthcare company, Biogen fully understands that it takes more than medications to be healthy. Access to play-oriented programs like Bikes & Trikes and Swim Program are absolutely essential from a whole health perspective. The socialization aspect of these programs is needed now more than ever for young people.” Rob Loney, Biogen Canada

Biogen is a sponsor of Radiothon: Play All Day and encourages the community to get involved! On May 26th, tune in to Rewind 931 and Fredericton's New Country 92-3 or stop by 30 Knowledge Park to make your donation and help kids Play All Day! https://buff.ly/3DNrnG7

Today is National !

What says ‘summer’ more than a trip to the beach, lake or pool? While many of us take swimming for granted, for kids with complex disabilities, a family outing to an aquatic destination can mean sitting on the sidelines. At SCCR Swim Clinics, kids are fitted with an adapted life jacket to help them participate in childhood activities. The physical benefits that buoyancy offers for rehabilitation purposes are a bonus!

Adapted life jackets cost $500, and are not covered by insurance. For many families, this means they’re not within reach – especially for a growing child. On May 26th, Radiothon will raise money to cover the cost of these life jackets to help these young patients Play All Day. Donate here: https://buff.ly/3pXhRcR
