Are you “too nice”— a chronic people-pleaser, lack of boundaries, and emotional suppression? It can invite disrespect and be perceived as a weakness or a lack of self worth.
It triggers illness by keeping the body in a constant state of stress (high cortisol/adrenaline), leading to inflammation and immune system dysfunction.
Suppressing emotions like anger or frustration to stay agreeable keeps the body’s sympathetic nervous system (fight-or-flight) on high alert.
Constant stress disrupts immune signaling, which can trigger autoimmune diseases, where the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues.
The persistent “fight-or-flight” state leads to elevated cortisol and adrenaline, increasing inflammatory cytokines, leading to heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
People pleasing also causes burn-out and leads to neglecting personal health (diet, exercise, sleep), which can result in weight gain, obesity and other lifestyle disease.
The KEY DISTINCTION is that true kindness is a strength rooted in healthy boundaries, whereas “too nice” is often a fawn response—a trauma-based attempt to ensure safety by appeasing others. Always be kind, but not a pushover.
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) is generally considered the MOST EFFECTIVE ESSENTIAL OIL for simultaneously calming high cortisol levels (stress hormone) and reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines, through its active compound Linalool, which reduces inflammatory markers.
Frankincense: HIGHLY EFFECTIVE at reducing inflammation, and is used to lower cortisol and provide emotional grounding.
Clary Sage: can SIGNIFICANTLY lower cortisol levels and increase serotonin, making it a strong choice for managing anxiety-induced stress.
