Wild Hawthorn Homestead & Therapy A 5-acre sanctuary in Gabriola Island, offering psychotherapy, live workshops & continuing education

Every time I am about to host something at Wild Hawthorn I feel a wave a vulnerability. I want people to have the best experience they can, I want the land to be as beautiful as it can be, I want the studio to feel like a perfect welcoming container.

I’m learning to make peace with this, surrender to imperfection and do it anyways. This is going to take time to take form and I can only do what I can. That’s the only way we ultimately create something beautiful in the long run.

I’m excited to announce that the new Wild Hawthorn website is live today! The past year has brought both a deepening and revisioning of the land and programming at Wild Hawthorn, and we needed a new website to reflect this.

This website outlines our updated vision and values, introduces the Pacific Hedge School as a learning space, and offers information to like-minded practitioners who may want to facilitate or rent the studio at Wild Hawthorn.

The site was beautifully designed by November Wild, who had also designed the branding and done much of the photography since my start in 2023. Working with Bree is always such a wonderful experience as she’s so creatively and thoughtfully crafts something that perfectly reflects the values and intention of the program.

I invite you to check out the site, sign up for the newsletter to receive updates, and continue to check back as we unroll our fall programming later in August ✨

I’ve been very inspired by the concept of ferality lately. The idea that a species that was once Wild, and then domesticated, can slowly recover instincts and return to its original Wild state.

In particular human, and specifically women’s experience of becoming feral, means to reconnect with an animal body that was built to move, connect, survive, and defend through a deeply instinctual, knowing.

Generations of disconnecting women from their intuition, their instinct, hunger, and healthy aggression has created a lot of confusion and dis-ease. There is an inherent rhythm in our bodies that we often override in order to maintain peace, connection, or to tend another.

To become feral, then, is to reengage with those deeper rhythms of the body, the seasons, the land, and the psychic knowing that lives below cultural conditioning.

Fall programming at Wild Hawthorn will organize around the feral feminine, including emotion, nature’s allies, ancestral survival skills, and deep consciousness.

Stay connected for our new website incoming weeks and to learn about our programs.

What a magical first event at Wild Hawthorn! Here are just a few shots from the day.

Heartfelt gratitude to the over 30 people who showed up, participated, asked questions, offered support and donations, and helped to bring this project to life.

Thank you for the skill and passion the facilitators brought to their programs and the attention, care and deep sense of trust that was co-created. .mac .danielledickson .true.studio .a.wilkin

And finally thank you to the land for holding us, the animal and plant beings for your loving presence, and the full moon for working your magic.

Welcome to the Pacific Hedge School ✨

Wild Hawthorn Homestead & Therapy encompasses the entirety of the land, structures, living beings and programs that exist here, but the Pacific Hedge School is our central program for teaching and learning.

Hedge Schools emerged in Ireland as acts of resistance—community-led gatherings on the land where children learned language, culture, and relationship to nature outside colonial systems.

In this spirit, the Pacific Hedge School creates space for learning and connection around ancestral and feminine knowledge and craft.

We explore themes such as birth and death, psyche and soul, belonging and place, plant and animal relations, land stewardship, embodiment and intuition, mythology and ritual, non-ordinary states, and matriarchal leadership.

We welcome aligned teachers, facilitators, and guides to offer classes, workshops, private sessions, and small retreats.

If you’d like to learn more, please join us for a full moon Open House happening this Sunday May 31 from 10-5.

It is an opportunity to participate in workshops, and connect with the women dreaming this into being.

Within the dominant paradigms, nature is treated as something that can be endlessly extracted from, despite having finite resources.

In many ways, our tender bodies have been treated the same way - systems often extracting from men’s bodies physically, and women’s emotionally (and everywhere in between).

This leads us into places of depletion, scarcity, and individualism as we feel the need to protect/withhold what little we feel we have left.

But what if ecological and matriarchal paradigms could offer new models? Systems of relating that become more abundant over time. Humans get enough or more of what they need from the earth while the earth simultaneously becomes healthier and more resilient. Relationships become less transactional, and become places we go to feel refilled rather than depleted.

This is possible, but requires a new set of values and beliefs shaping our interactions. Generosity, trust, reciprocity, creativity, shared responsibility, and not taking more than we need.

Wild Hawthorn aspires to be a microcosm to practice, play, learn, make mistakes, and explore these alternative paradigms for being and relating.

Wild Hawthorn is alive with the energy of spring and we’d love to invite you to this Full Moon Open House on Sunday May 31.

Wild Hawthorn is being revisioned by a group of women as a collaborative space to offer experiential and therapeutic programs, and to practice and live matriarchal and ecological values.

This open house event offers a series of brief programs to introduce the community to our ethos, some practitioners, and to meet the energy of the land.

All are welcome to attend. The event is drop in and by donation. RSVP to confirm the address.

We would love to connect with you. 💚

In the Celtic tradition, gates represent thresholds between the ordinary world and the Otherworld. To cross into the Otherworld is to cross into a supernatural realm of the ancestors, magic and abundance.

Gates also represent transitions, and Wild Hawthorn is in a stage of transition to meet the needs of the time we are in.

Continue to follow us here to witness the unfolding of this process. To start, please enjoy our revised vision:

✨Wild Hawthorn Homestead & Therapy is a therapeutic sanctuary that facilitates experiential, educational, and healing programs.

Our intention is to deepen community collaboration, to support lifelong learning with a special emphasis on women’s ways of knowing and being, and to honour our relationship and interconnectedness with a natural world.✨

We welcome collaboration with likeminded practitioners, supporters and participants.

We are organizing around matriarchal and Permaculture values, and we’ll share in future posts how we hope to embody and practice these.
