I gave nicknames to all four of my kids.

Their nicknames reflect their uniqueness and the special qualities each of them brings to our family.

The nickname I gave to my older son, Dimitri, is “Coach Dimitris.” From a very young age, Dimitri was a natural coach for all of his siblings… and sometimes for us as well!

Today, at 19 years old, he is a 1st-year Queen’s Commerce student, entrepreneur with his own mobile detailing business, Half Ironman and full marathon finisher, and most importantly, a real coach who influences people through his daily example.

The video in this post is not strictly soccer-related, but it is strongly connected to leadership and is highly recommended for every youth soccer leader to watch.

⚽🔥 THE POWER OF “NO!” IN YOUR SOCCER JOURNEY 🔥⚽

The word “NO!” is one of the 3 most important words in Resilience Leadership.

Understanding when and how to use this word in your soccer journey will strengthen your resilience and showcase your leadership.

There are 3 major moments when you need to say “NO!”:

1️⃣ Say “NO!” to anything that goes against your PURPOSE
Your PURPOSE defines WHY you play the game. It is the fuel that drives you every day toward your true potential. Anything that works against your purpose can create setbacks and distractions. In these moments, you need the courage to say “NO!” to whatever slows you down.

2️⃣ Say “NO!” to anything that goes against your PERSONAL CORE VALUES
Your PERSONAL CORE VALUES are your compass and set the sidelines of your soccer journey. Anything that conflicts with your values can take you off your path. This is where a strong and fearless “NO!” protects your character and keeps you moving in the right direction.

3️⃣ Say “NO!” to anything that becomes an obstacle to your GOALS
Your GOALS are the milestones that help you fulfill your purpose while staying aligned with your values. Anything that creates an obstacle to your goals deserves a clear and courageous “NO!”.

Saying “NO!” is not always easy. Sometimes you may be disliked or misunderstood.

But your role in this journey is not to please everyone.

Your role is to discover your true potential as a soccer player and a soccer leader.

Use the word “NO!” wisely and fearlessly… and become the player and leader you were meant to be.

Because the Mind, Heart & Body are connected through the nervous system.

Cold Exposure training helps players:

✅ Increase Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
✅ Step out of their comfort zone
✅ Improve focus in the present moment
✅ Strengthen discipline
✅ Stay calm under pressure
✅ Support physical recovery
✅ Regulate breathing
✅ Build physical & mental resilience

The goal is not simply to “handle the cold.”
The goal is to train players to stay calm, focused, and effective under pressure on the field and in life.

Today, I had the privilege of sharing my career journey with student-athletes from St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School.
Among other things, I shared some of the most important lessons and takeaways from my 30-year career in the corporate world.

CARRER TAKEAWAYS
1- In your soccer journey, don’t let anyone tell you what you are capable of doing, or not doing.
You are always, and in all ways, greater than you think you are.

2- Success needs 3 things:
✅ WHAT? → Knowledge
✅ HOW? → Skills
✅ WANT? → Attitude
When you have the right attitude, you can build the skills and knowledge needed to grow.
3- Your genes define who you were when you were born…

But your environment defines who you can become.
Choose to be part of a team that supports your growth.
4- Your personal values set the sidelines in your soccer journey.
Never cross your sidelines for anyone.

5- Your “WHY?” defines your purpose.
Always have a strong WHY.

6- The 3 most powerful phrases in your soccer journey:
- I AM!
- NO!
- NOT YET!
Use them wisely.
