I WANT TO KNOW... ๐ฉท
What are your favourite anti-bullying/bullying awareness quotes?
Next month is and now more than ever, we are
responsible for teaching our children the effects of bullying, especially cyber-bullying.
As I reflect on my relationship with bullying, what it was like growing up being bullied and how it has affected me today (making friendships and connecting, especially to women), I feel sad that our youth live in a culture where as they navigate the stresses and discomforts of being a pre-teen, entering puberty and coming into their own, they also have to navigate such horrific. intentional cruel behaviour by their peers.
Where is this behaviour taught?
When did it become perceived 'cool'?
What are our responsibilities as parents and guardians to debunk and correct this behaviour at the first signs of it?
How do we teach those that are experiencing bullying that it is safe to speak out? When there is fear of being further bullied, isolated and called names like: nark, tattle tail, rat. (I know I experienced this and it gave fuel and made the bullying even stronger.)
How do we teach our children that take a more passive role in their friend groups that not speaking up and staying silent is not okay. That the need to fit in should not outweigh the desire and ability to speak up when they see someone being bullied.
These are some thought and questions that have been on my mind lately and I would love to hear from YOU.
