Today, our hearts are heavy at ANFCA as we grieve and honor the extraordinary life and timeless spirit of Kukom Linda Boudreau Semaganis, a cherished matriarch, leader, and guiding light for all of us.

Kukom Linda was a foundational pillar within the Friendship Centre Movement, serving with grace, strength, and unwavering dedication as the Alberta Senator for the National Association of Friendship Centres (NAFC) and a deeply respected elder for the Alberta Native Friendship Centres Association (ANFCA). She carried an aura that felt truly timeless, offering a steady, gentle presence through every shift and season.

Her life’s work was rooted in deep love for her people and an fierce commitment to justice. She was a vital advocate in addressing Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S+), ensuring that the voices of our women were heard, protected, and honored. Through her advocacy, wisdom, and practice of true relationship, she uplifted generations and helped shape the path forward for urban Indigenous communities across Alberta and Turtle Island.

For the ANFCA staff and all who worked alongside her, the space she leaves behind is profound and irreplaceable. Her laughter, humour, gentle guidance, and quiet power will be missed beyond measure in our hearts.

We extend our deepest condolences, prayers, and love to her family, loved ones, and community. May her spirit journey in peace and comfort, and may her legacy continue to guide us as we walk the trail she helped clear.

Kukom Linda. You will be forever loved, remembered, and missed

Recovery is About More Than Just Sobriety—It's About Living Again. 💙🏐

At the Bonnyville Indian Métis Rehabilitation Centre, recovery isn't just about attending groups and counselling sessions. It's also about reconnecting with life, building healthy relationships, and learning to have fun without substances.

Our Support Staff Supervisor, Jon, is seen here diving right into the game alongside our clients, while our newest team member, Janine, joins in on the fun. Recreation like this encourages teamwork, laughter, physical wellness, and positive social interaction—all important parts of the recovery journey.

Moments like these remind us that healing happens not only in the counselling room but also through shared experiences, encouragement, and healthy recreation.

We're proud of our staff for leading by example and creating opportunities for clients to experience joy, connection, and community in recovery.

💙 Recovery is possible. Recovery is meaningful. Recovery can be fun.

Happy Canada Day!

Today we traded our usual routine for a beautiful day at the lake, celebrating everything that makes recovery worthwhile.

Recovery is about so much more than giving something up it's about gaining a life worth living. Days like today remind us that joy, laughter, connection, and adventure don't require substances. They come from being present, making memories, and embracing the freedom that recovery brings.

Here's to fresh air, good company, and celebrating the incredible lives we are building one day at a time.

Happy Canada Day from all of us! 🍁☀️🌊

Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration

In recognition of Indigenous Peoples Day, the Centre was honoured to welcome a guest speaker and talented hoop dancer Beany John who generously donated her time to share her knowledge and teachings with our clients and staff. She provided an engaging presentation on the history, cultural significance, and relevance of hoop dancing, offering valuable insight into this important Indigenous tradition.

The experience was both educational and inspiring, and was greatly enjoyed by everyone in attendance. We extend our sincere appreciation to our guest for sharing her gifts and teachings with us.

We would also like to thank our practicum student for organizing this special event and helping make the celebration a meaningful and memorable experience for all.
