We ask our soldiers to be tough.
Carry the weapon. Carry the gear. Carry the responsibility. Go where most of us would never want to go and see things most of us will never have to see.
Then somehow we expect them to come home, put it all away and carry on like nothing happened.
That’s bu****it.
Some wounds bleed.
Others wake you up at 3 a.m.
PTSD. Depression. Anxiety. Survivor’s guilt. Memories that refuse to shut off. None of that makes a soldier weak.
We tell them to never leave someone behind on the battlefield.
Maybe we need to start living by that same rule when they come home.
Check on them. Listen to them. Stand beside them. And when one finally says, “I’m struggling,” don’t judge them for it.
They were willing to fight for us.
We better be willing to fight for them.
🇨🇦 No soldier left behind should include mental health.
