Yes, yes, yes, yes!

My last reel on rest had so many people talking about the messages they heard growing up:

“If you have time to lean, you have time to clean!”
“Make yourself useful”
“Don’t be lazy”
“Are you just going to sit there all day?!”

Reinforced over and over again we feel shame for not doing.

Some of us even jump up pretending to be busy if we hear someone walk into the room. It runs deep.

Rest is productive.

We’ve evolved to work hard, then rest. Our body needs parasympathetic recovery. Our mind needs to decompress and drift off. Our body needs stillness and quiet.

Think about people who are always going. Who can’t sit still. This is fight or flight energy. And if you notice, they might get s lot done but they never feel settled. Sometimes their mind is completely scattered.

Tell yourself: I AM SAFE TO REST.

Give yourself that nap. If your body needs more rest, sleep later. If you’re exhausted at 8pm put yourself into bed. Your body is speaking— listen. Guilt free

I talk about this frequently with clients...it's not actually about the dishes, or the laundry, or picking up the dog 💩. Is each partner's time valued and respected? Is each partner valued and respected?

I honestly have this conversation with nearly all of my clients and the relatability is profound. Can you relate?

We’re mean to connect, to share, and to depend on each other. But we cannot do that when we glorify self abandonment. Taking care of ourselves and prioritizing our own needs allows us to do the same for others

Always a work in progress 💜 sometimes a missing ingredient on those more difficult days is compassion. Many of you are putting in the work, time, and energy to achieve therapeutic change, however, we must also match that with compassion on our and others' most difficult days.

Doing the inner work is a must to have a healthy relationship, but there’s no escaping our humanity. Relationships are messy and having healthy expectations allows us to accept the times when it’s not easy or when our triggers come out in full force

Lotus congratulates all local businesses in Grande Prairie and surrounding areas. The last number of years certainly have not been a walk in the park. Despite the community having numerous opportunities to choose big box stores or huge organizations, the support from communities within which local businesses operate, is unwavering.
