WHY I LOVE MANUAL LYMPH DRAINAGE
The more I work with the lymphatic system, the more fascinated I am by it.
Your lymphatic system is part of both your circulatory and immune systems. It helps collect excess fluid from your tissues, transport immune cells and move proteins, cellular debris and other substances back toward circulation so your body can process and eliminate what it doesn’t need.
Unlike your cardiovascular system, it doesn’t have a heart pumping it around. Lymph movement relies on things like breathing, muscle contractions and the natural contractions of the lymph vessels themselves.
That’s where Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) comes in.
MLD uses very light, slow, rhythmic movements designed to encourage lymphatic flow. And when I say light — I mean light. The lymphatic vessels we’re targeting are very close to the surface, so deeper pressure isn’t better.
What I love about it:
It can help support fluid movement and reduce feelings of puffiness or swelling.
It can be helpful when your body is dealing with temporary fluid accumulation or recovering from certain procedures — when medically appropriate.
It supports the normal function of your lymphatic system rather than trying to “detox” your body for you.
And one of my favourite parts? It is incredibly calming. The slow, repetitive nature of the treatment can leave people feeling deeply relaxed afterward.
So how often should you come?
There isn’t one magic schedule.
For general wellness and relaxation, some people love coming every 3–6 weeks as part of their regular body-care routine.
If we’re addressing a specific reason for fluid buildup or swelling, treatments may initially be closer together — but frequency should be based on what’s causing the swelling, your health history and, when appropriate, guidance from your medical team.
MLD isn’t something everyone needs weekly forever.
For me, it’s another way of helping the body do something it already knows how to do — with a little support.
And I absolutely love adding it to my practice.
