Today is World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.

This year's theme,"Trapped Behind the Scam," highlights the growing number of people who are trafficked through fake job offers and forced into online scam operations under threats, coercion, and violence. [un.org], [unodc.org]

At Pace, we recognize that human trafficking is a form of violence and exploitation that can have profound impacts on survivors. By raising awareness, supporting survivors, and learning the warning signs, we can help build safer communities.

The Grande Prairie Police Service has partnered with Not In My City to strengthen the fight against human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Grande Prairie and across Canada.

This commitment includes participation from both sworn members and civilian staff in specialized training to recognize the signs of human trafficking, as well as internal and external awareness initiatives across the organization.

โ€œHuman trafficking remains a serious and evolving issue in Grande Prairie and communities across Canada,โ€ says GPPS Chief Dwayne Lakusta. โ€œAddressing it requires strong collaboration between police and community partners. By working together, we can increase awareness, strengthen early intervention, and improve our collective response to support those affected by exploitation.โ€
โ€œ is proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Grande Prairie Police Service in this critical fight,โ€ says Paul Brandt, country music artist and founder of . โ€œWe are sending a clear and uncompromising message: child sexual exploitation and human trafficking are wrong, they will not be tolerated, and they have no place in our communities โ€” not in my city, not in yours, not anywhere.โ€

Human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing crimes in Canada, with 93 per cent of reported victims being trafficked domestically. These cases often go unnoticed or unreported due to manipulation, fear, threats from traffickers, shame, language barriers, or mistrust of authority.

Members of the public are encouraged to learn more about human trafficking in Canada by taking a free e-learning course available at notinmycity.ca/learn.

Led by Paul Brandt, is a powerful movement dedicated to ending sexual exploitation and human trafficking in Canada, with a special focus on protecting our children and youth. United with key partners, is spreading awareness, educating communities, and deploying a strategic plan for real, lasting changes.
