As we move into the final weeks of summer, nature gently reminds us that every season has its own rhythm. The bright energy of early summer begins to soften, the days slowly become shorter, and there is an invitation to pause before the busy pace of autumn arrives.

In Ayurveda, summer is associated with Pitta - the energy of heat, intensity, and transformation. While these qualities help us accomplish great things, too much heat can leave us feeling rushed, impatient, or depleted. The antidote isn't to do more - it's to slow down.

This month, we invite you to embrace the slower rhythm of late summer.

Take a walk simply to enjoy the fresh air. Watch the sunset without feeling the need to be somewhere else. Sit quietly with your morning tea. Spend time in nature. Breathe deeply. Let yourself move through your day with a little less urgency and a little more presence.

Your yoga practice can be a beautiful way to cool both the body and the mind. Gentle movement, mindful breathing, and moments of stillness help us find balance, reminding us that we don't have to earn our rest - it is an essential part of living well.

At STAVA Yoga, we believe that yoga isn't just what happens on the mat. It's how we meet each moment with awareness, kindness, and compassion for ourselves.

Whether you're joining us in the studio or enjoying time away, we hope you give yourself permission to soak up these precious days of summer.

Before long, the crisp mornings of fall will arrive, bringing fresh routines, new intentions, and the joy of reconnecting with our wonderful yoga community. We are already looking forward to welcoming everyone back for another beautiful season of practice together.

Until then, may you move a little slower, breathe a little deeper, and savour all that this season has to offer.

Welcome to July! I hope you're finding time to enjoy the sunshine, spend time outdoors, and appreciate all that summer has to offer.

Our theme this month is Summer Heat.

Summer invites us to slow down and soak up the warmth, but it also reminds us to find balance. Just as nature thrives with both sunshine and rain, our bodies and minds benefit from balancing activity with rest. Through our practice this month, we'll focus on moving with intention, staying hydrated, and creating space to cool both the body and the mind.

🌿 An Ayurvedic Perspective

In Ayurveda, summer is associated with the Pitta dosha, which is made up of the elements of fire and water. Pitta gives us energy, motivation, focus, and transformation, but during the hottest months of the year it can easily become excessive. When Pitta is out of balance, we may notice impatience, irritability, inflammation, overheating, or feeling mentally "burned out."

One of the beautiful teachings of Ayurveda is that we create balance by choosing the opposite qualities. During the heat of summer, we can nourish ourselves with cooling foods, plenty of water, time in nature, gentle movement, calming breathwork, and moments of stillness. Rather than constantly pushing forward, summer reminds us that there is strength in slowing down and allowing ourselves to simply be.

As we practice together this month, we'll embrace movement that builds strength while also inviting ease, balance, and a sense of inner calm.

Whether you're joining us to build strength, improve flexibility, reduce stress, or simply enjoy an hour dedicated to yourself, I look forward to sharing the mat with you.

🌿 A Few Summer Practice Tips

Bring a water bottle and stay hydrated before and after class.

Wear light, comfortable clothing.

Listen to your body—summer heat can make us feel stronger, but it can also lead to fatigue more quickly.

Try a few cooling breaths (Śītalī or Śītkārī Prāṇāyāma) or simply slow your breathing after practice.

Spend a few quiet moments outdoors in the morning or evening when the air is cooler.

June has arrived, bringing longer days, sunshine, and the vibrant energy of summer. In Ayurveda, this season is known as Grishma Ritu, a time when the heat of summer begins to increase the Pitta dosha—the energy associated with fire, transformation, and intensity. During this season, Ayurveda encourages us to slow down, stay hydrated, and seek balance through cooling foods, calming practices, and mindful movement.

☀️ Finding Balance in the Heat

Have you noticed feeling more irritable, overheated, restless, or fatigued lately? According to Ayurveda, these can be signs that Pitta is becoming elevated. The antidote is simple: embrace activities and foods that are cooling, nourishing, and grounding.

Ayurvedic Tips for June:

🌿 Start your day with a few moments of quiet reflection or meditation.

🥒 Enjoy cooling foods such as cucumber, watermelon, berries, leafy greens, coconut, mint, and fresh herbs.

💧 Stay hydrated throughout the day with water, herbal teas, or infused water with cucumber, mint, or lime.

🌸 Choose gentle movement over intense exertion during the hottest parts of the day.

😌 Prioritize rest and allow yourself time to slow down and recharge.

🧘 Yoga for Summer Balance

This month, consider approaching your practice with the intention of creating space and ease. Cooling and grounding poses, mindful breathing, and longer relaxation periods can help balance the fiery energy of summer.

Try incorporating:

Forward folds

Gentle twists

Moon salutations

Supported restorative poses

Cooling breath practices such as Sheetali or Sheetkari pranayama

Remember, yoga is not about doing more—it's about finding the balance your body and mind need today.

🌱 A Season of New Beginnings

Just as nature is flourishing, June invites us to grow, evolve, and reconnect with what nourishes us. Whether you're joining us on the mat, enjoying time outdoors, or simply taking a few mindful breaths each day, remember that balance is found in the small moments.
