A big difference between the two.

If the top is being marked for speed and the height of the jumps are different I can understand the anxiety being higher.

But then it makes me ask. Why put the horse through that discomfort when they could be shown like the horse below and be happy with what they're doing?

Is it right to make a horse do something that is so uncomfortable? The high head and tail swishing is a very unhappy horse doing something it is forced into. Is that the right thing to do?

So sad

First Summer, Last Wild One.

Just days before the Piceance Basin helicopter roundup, this young foal was doing what every young wild horse should be doing—staying close to his mother, discovering the world, and learning what it means to live free.

For the vast majority of this year's foals, this first summer in the wild will also be their last. They will be captured, separated from the only home they've ever known, and begin lives in government holding facilities.

Before the statistics, before the debates, there are moments like these.

A foal's first wild summer should not be his last.

I had the pleasure of seeing the Lipizzaners training at one of the farms years ago. They are beautiful, amazingly talented horses.

When I saw Monty at a clinic in Toronto, I was in awe. His ability to connect with the young horse he was training was profound. He had the trust of this horse within 30 minutes, having it tacked up with a rider and no fuss.

I can't say I've been able to train a horse in 30 minutes but I did train many horses afterwards following his example.

Thank you Monty for teaching us a way to train without gadgets or other paraphernalia. Just simply watching the horse's reactions and knowing when they were ready by talking to them in a language they understood, made the step to being a riding horse so much easier.

For as long as Shannon Peters has been riding dressage, she has focused on her posture and balance. If her horse starts to get a bit heavy or behind her leg, she always goes back to finding her position in the saddle and asks herself how she can sit better to help her horse’s balance.

When we lose the wild horses, what do we lose after that? We have already driven many animals to extinction. The original horses may have been brought over from Spain but they have lived co-existing with nature. They should be allowed to continue living wild, rather than being wiped out of existence altogether. What greed is driving them to be slaughtered? We know some will be bought but in actuality they are just being stored in kill pens. Ergo they’re being captured to die. How does a few hundred horses living happily and healthily across a massive country cause problems? Ask the powers that be and the possible money passing behind the scenes. Showing clear openness and public sharing into all involved, with truth from behind the scenes is needed at this time.
