POV you own a bakery and it’s recycling day…as the summer season gains momentum, so does our flour consumption! We’re going through many 20kg bags of organic k2milling flour every week, and our recycling bins regularly look like this…flour bags inside flour bags, shoved into blue bins!

We actually used up our last bags of bread flour this morning, and thankfully our flour delivery arrives this morning to restock! We’re grateful to have partnered with a local delivery service which has removed the stress of running out of flour in the summer! If you’re new here, all our flour comes from a mill located south of Barrie, and it’s not something we can just run to the grocery store to restock!

Anyone else struggling to remember what day of the week it is? Our schedule changes a bit starting this week because the Thursday Sudbury Market begins this week and we’ve resumed some of our seasonal partnerships. Suddenly our Wednesday dough day is a lot busier, but since we prep flour and ingredients for Wednesday’s dough day on Tuesday, but all of that is for loaves that will bake on Thursday, you can understand where the foggy brain comes in…
But we are so excited to see you this Thursday for our first outdoor market of the season! In true Thursday market fashion, the weather is looking a bit iffy, but we’re manifesting good things and we know that Thursday market shoppers are another level of committed!

We made it to the last week of school and Henrietta our Porch Goose is celebrating the first day of summer (yesterday) with a nice summer hat! We’ve got a busy week ahead as our daughter graduates grade 8 and we celebrate her, and the Thursday market starts this week too!

Parents and caregivers, are we doing anything special to celebrate the end of another school year? Tell us about your end of school year traditions if you have them! Or maybe you’re starting something new, or just grateful that you all made it to the end of the year in one piece.

Happy father’s day to all the dads and father figures out there! Around here, Chad always makes family breakfast on Sunday as we enjoy a slower rest day. Since it’s Father’s Day, we made him breakfast instead! We’re also looking forward to spending time with family this afternoon. Dads, we hope you are celebrated today, and everyday!

SUDBURY BESTIES! 🚨

Hazel & Rosemary Micro Bakery & Kitchen just launched a brand new sourdough pastry lineup and we had to do a taste test. 🤤

We tried:
🄐 Croissants
🌿 Morning Bun
šŸ“ Rhubarb Danish

The verdict?

Richard’s winner was the Morning Bun. The sourdough dough paired with the orange cardamom was absolutely his thing.

My favourite was the Rhubarb Danish. The rhubarb topping had the perfect balance of sweet and tart, and the pastry itself was buttery, flaky, and everything you want from a Danish.

As for Autym? She would happily accept a standing order of croissants every morning for the rest of her life. šŸ˜‚

Honestly, there wasn’t a bad choice in the bunch. If you’re heading to the Sudbury Market this morning, definitely stop by Hazel & Rosemary and treat yourself to one (or three).

Happy Father’s Day weekend! If you’re stuck for ideas for Dad, might we suggest fresh sourdough? It goes with every meal of the day! Or put together a breakfast box with some of our pastries, waffles, English muffins, a sourdough loaf and some nice cheese. Add in a bag of our Baker’s Brew coffee and you’ve got a recipe for deliciousness!

It’s that time of the year where there are a million things happening at once as school winds down. Sourdough also makes a great teacher gift! šŸ˜‰

Our community is so amazing, for many reasons, but today, here’s another one: our faithful rhubarb patch has been growing really well this year, but so has our customer demand for our rhubarb danishes! This morning we posted in our local community facebook group asking if anyone had an abundance of rhubarb and would share with us while our patch grows back. The response was amazing, with people offering their rhubarb patches for harvesting, and others dropping off harvests at our house. We are so grateful for our community. There are lots of good people out there!

Rhubarb danishes are back again this weekend at the Sudbury Market as well as a rhubarb focaccia!

We’re loving all these seasonal features!

The countdown is on! Thursday Market returns in exactly 1 Week! Beginning June 25, you will be able to shop local food vendors and stock up before heading to camp for the weekend! The Thursday Sudbury Market is located in the south Parking Lot šŸ…æļø on the corner of York & Paris across from Bell Park from 2-6pm!

We love the outdoor Thursday Markets and we’re so excited to see you there! You can get produce from Freskiw Farms Sudbury Inc, mushrooms from The Ugly Barn Farm, locally made pop from Sipping Viking, organically grown produce from. Verdant Fields Farm, freeze dried goodies from Freedom Farms, and prepared meals from kiasalcatering, and haskap berries and products from La Belle Vie Farm.
And of course we will be there with a full selection of freshly baked sourdough items!

The cheesy goodness of these chipotle cheddar smells so good coming out of the bread ovens this week! While we plow ahead with our regular baking schedule, we’re also making preparations for our summer schedule as we add a couple more of our seasonal partners back in, and the Thursday market begins next week!
We’re preparing ourselves physically by doing a juice cleanse for the next few days. We’ve done this before a few times, but it’s been a couple years. It might be a special type of self-induced torture to do a juice cleanse while you operate a bakery full time, but we know it’s doing good things for our long-term health which also means good things for the sustainability of our business. So for the next 3 days we’re enjoying some organic cold pressed juices instead of chewing our food…usually I start to struggle by day 2, so here’s hoping I can keep myself grounded!

And have no fear, we will be back to eating our own sourdough by Saturday! It’s a healthy powerhouse of nutrients that we would NEVER eliminate.

We’re turning orange over here! This week’s feature flavour is chipotle cheddar and the smoked paprika has our gloves and dough bins stained orange! This flavour is cheesy and smoky and so delicious for sandwiches, toast and grilled cheese. Or, how about avocado toast? šŸ„‘ šŸž toasted with butter and hot honey? Yes please!
