“The ultimate value of life lies in awareness and contemplation, not merely in survival.” — Aristotle

Technology and Awareness
Modern technology can influence spiritual growth. When people become absorbed in their cell phones, they may lose awareness of the world around them. Although technology allows them to connect with others across great distances, it can also cause them to overlook what is happening right in front of them.

A Perspective on Growth
Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu (604–531 BC) observed, “The key to growth is the introduction of higher dimensions of consciousness into our awareness.”
This insight suggests that growth begins with greater awareness of our surroundings, our daily experiences, and the natural world. Yet this kind of awareness can be difficult to cultivate because we often live as “action people.” We stay busy, move quickly from one task to the next, and rarely pause to reflect on what is happening around us.

Horses Teach Us to Be Grateful Through Change
Horses do not inherently embrace change. Because they are prey animals, their survival instincts rely heavily on consistency, routine, and a familiar environment. But that doesn't mean they can't teach us how to be better change agents:
Observing and working with horses provides hyper-specific insights into how to navigate life's transitions:
Emotions as Information: Horses don't overthink or judge; they respond immediately to your nervous system and energy. If you are feeling anxious about a change, the horse will react to it. They teach us to stop hiding our feelings and accept them as valid data.
Consistency over Intensity: Change isn't about one massive, forceful moment. Horses show us that consistent, daily practice is what truly builds trust and solidifies new behaviors.
The Power of the Pause: If a horse becomes resistant, good trainers don't force the issue; they slow down, pause, and build a new foundation.
They teach us that taking a step back to reassess is not a sign of weakness, but an essential step for growth.Letting Go of the Reins (Ego): You cannot force a 1,200-pound animal to do something it doesn't want to do without a struggle. Horses strip away human ego and force us to build consensus and trust, showing us that true leadership during change is about earning cooperation rather than demanding itl
Living in the Here and Now: Horses don't dwell on past events or fret about the future. They teach us to let go of what has already happened, focus on the immediate task, and move forward.

I don't like change!
We need to accept change, and the new normal it creates. Try to put our efforts towards problem-solving a way to re-establish and achieve a new, revised sense of balance and a new normal. Some ways include modifying our response to new and evolving life events, persons, places, or circumstances; making an effort to do something different or do it differently; approaching a problem or a situation from a different angle; revising our thoughts, viewpoints, and opinions; or looking at ourselves from another perspective. Reframing is a great tool to incorporate as well.
It’s helpful if we can identify and focus on those things we can control, let go of what we cannot control, and understand that adapting to change is an ongoing process. Adapting to change also means being flexible and able to respond to altered situations and conditions as they emerge. It’s like the wavering palm tree in a tropical storm—able to bend and sway without breaking and return to calm, perhaps with a lost branch or two.
Change requires that we learn to tolerate uncertainty and unknowns, manage any fears associated with them, and be open and adept at adjusting our expectations and ways of thinking [remembering the 16 Guidelines] -how we think; , doing, [how we act; and being [how we find meaning]..

The good news is that adapting to change and being flexible enables us to evolve and grow. That’s not all bad.

CHANGE... love it or hate it,it's going to happen!!
Adapting to Change
A meaningful part of life is learning how to adapt. Unexpected changes—at work, in our personal lives, or in everyday routines—often become opportunities to strengthen our flexibility and resilience.
Common Reactions to Change
Many people respond to change by trying to deny it, avoid it, resist it, or control it. These reactions often come from a desire to return to the way things were before a difficult event or disruption.
In most cases, this approach does not help for long. Instead, it can intensify the experience by increasing fear, uncertainty, stress, anxiety, fatigue, and emotional exhaustion.
A More Effective Response
A more effective way to deal with change is to accept it rather than fight it. From there, we can begin to adjust, adapt, and move forward.
Although disruption can feel unsettling, people naturally seek stability. Over time, change can lead to a new sense of normal—a new baseline from which to continue growing.

A peaceful life is rarely built through chaos and constant rushing. It’s built through small daily habits: simplicity, presence, discipline, and stillness.

The more unnecessary noise you remove, the more clearly you begin to hear yourself. Slow down. Simplify. Protect your peace.

Do Horses Possess a Sense of Self-Awareness?

Research indicates that horses possess a form of self-awareness, particularly mirror self-recognition. A 2021 study found that horses could use mirrors to identify marks on their bodies, suggesting an objective, outside perspective of their physical selves.
This research also suggests that horses can distinguish between internal body awareness and an external view of themselves, pointing to a practical form of cognitive self-awareness rather than human-like introspection.

What This Suggests
Although horses may not possess human-like self-reflection, they appear to demonstrate high-level cognitive abilities that support a clear, functional sense of their own individuality.

Reflection
This understanding may also help explain why people sometimes try to hide their emotions, thoughts, or intentions around horses. In many cases, they may be masking fear, anger, or sadness without realizing how strongly horses respond to nonverbal cues.
Seen this way, the horse becomes more than an animal to observe; it becomes a mirror that invites us to reflect on who we are.
Explore who you are when seen by the kind non-judgemental eyes of a horse.

Practical Steps to Increase Self-Awareness
To make self-awareness a part of daily life, it can be helpful to start with small, manageable steps. Johnson recommends that we begin by dedicating just three to five minutes each day to focus on ourselves. This simple practice can be an effective way to build the habit of checking in with our thoughts and feelings.

By setting aside a short amount of time consistently, we gradually become more comfortable with self-reflection. Over time, these brief moments of awareness can make it easier to understand our needs and emotions, laying the groundwork for more authentic relationships with others.

Human Relationship and Self Awareness, why you should care!

Human relationships and self-awareness are critical because they dictate the quality of your daily life, mental health, and personal happiness. Neglecting these areas often results in dysfunctional patterns, emotional exhaustion, or repeating the same, painful relationship mistakes.
What happens when we neglect self awareness?
• People lacking self-awareness are reactive and, when triggered, can't stop their emotional, negative reactions.
• You'll stay stuck in a loop of toxic patterns or, as some say, the "power struggle" stage of relationships, rather than maturing and finding genuine connection.
Building a stronger relationship with who we are can lay the foundation for healthier, more fulfilling relationships with others.
