The grieving process is an individual one and while the five stages can provide a valuable roadmap, the grief process does not always follow it and often does not follow them cleanly.

Managing anxiety is not easy. Many of the things we use to manage our anxiety are also not easy and sometimes when we are anxious they feel boring and we loose motivation to do them. These are just some tips for managing anxiety that can be fun and be done using the amount of time that you have.

Blaming anxiety is a personal favourite because it separates who we are from our anxiety. Also, saying "this is not the time __!" is so fun :). Fun tip: match alarms or notification sounds to the sticks you use. Another fun tip: when using the ice cubes sing a song about cooling off such as Avril Lavigne "Complicated," Foreigner "Cold as Ice," or Twenty One Pilots "Stressed Out."

Prioritizing our own mental health is not easy, but it's necessary. There are many things that we do that take up space and energy and take away from our ability to heal and refuel our minds. These are just 5 ideas of things that may be taking up space in your mind that don't serve you well. Parenting is both rewarding and challenging. There is a lot of pressure on parents and information on the importance of positive parenting. It is also important to remember that no matter how positive one's parenting is, a child will still face challenges. Parenting can help prepare children for challenges but it is not always the case that positive parenting entirely prevents the development of mental illness. It is important, as a parent, to not take blame for everything that happens in your child's life but instead to understand that there are things that can be done to help prepare them for the future.

Happy Mother's Day to all who identify as a mother, in whatever way they would like to define that role. We recognize that this day is not easy for many individuals and we want to extend our love and support to anyone struggling on this day. We recognize both the complexities and struggles of becoming a mother and being a mother as well as those associated with the desire for a healthier relationship with one's mother. We also feel for anyone who has lost a mother or child.

Please don't discount your mothering based on comparisons with other mothers. Celebrate yourself in whatever way feels right for you. We would also like to remind you to take care of yourself today. Today we recognize the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. This day is observed annually on May 5th to honour the Indigenous women and girls who never made it home and raise awareness about the continual violence that is committed against Indigenous peoples in Canada. Colonialism has not ended in Canada nor has the genocide against Indigenous peoples.

We at Chettiar Counselling recognize our place as settlers on Turtle Island and our role in stopping this violence. We recognize that action must be taken to end this violence and our place in those actions.
