Frank Pew, MSW RSW has over a decade of clinical experience and training working with trauma survivors and people with mental health related difficulties. His area of expertise is in assessment and treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Anxiety/Mood disorders, and Obsessive-Compulsive and related disorders. Frank specializes in evidenced-based clinical care and is intensively trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). He provides care from adolescents to adults and has extensive experience working with first responders and military veterans. Frank's approach to therapy is balanced between acceptance and change. He strives to help his clients cultivate the self-awareness and tools to effect behavioural change that ultimately leads to living more aligned with their values and deriving a deeper sense of meaning and purpose in life.

Some new faces here, so hey…I’m Frank. 👋

OCD therapist. Founder of True North Psychotherapy in Guelph, Ontario. Philly born, with the mouth to prove it.

Also a husband, dad, hockey coach, coffee lover, tattoo collector, and occasional s**t disturber. Apparently now a guy who dances and poses in his office for Instagram.

I specialize in OCD (with ERP), trauma, and DBT. I also teach clinicians how to do ERP- and I care a whole f*cking lot about people getting treatment that actually helps.

Expect OCD education, honest conversations about therapy, some swearing, and bits of the human behind the therapist.

This is what changing OCD treatment in Canada looks like.

Tonight, in beautiful Kelowna, I had the chance to be part of the Connect 4 OCD event focused on expanding access to better OCD care. It was an educational evening bringing clinicians together to talk about where we are, where we’re falling short, and what needs to change.

And I got to spend the evening with some of the people who are actually moving this work forward.

Dr. Peggy Richter. Dr. Lesley Lutes. Brian Reeve. Dr. Melody Morin. And Eli Lebowitz joining virtually.

Researchers. Clinicians. Advocates. Change makers.

Different lanes. Same problem:

People with OCD still have to work way too f’n hard to find proper treatment.

Sitting in that room made me even more fired up about what we’re building with the new ERP certificate at Laurier.

We need more clinicians who recognize OCD.
More clinicians who actually understand ERP.
More access to evidence-based treatment.
And a hell of a lot less “I treat anxiety, so I treat OCD.”

And a huge amount of gratitude to Katia Brosseau, founder of Connect 4 OCD, for putting together such a packed evening of education and conversation and for inviting me to be part of the panel on expanding access to better OCD care.

These kinds of nights matter. Getting clinicians in the same room, sharing what we know, challenging where we’re falling short, and figuring out how the hell we actually make things better matters.

There are some incredible people pushing OCD care forward in Canada.

I’m pretty damn grateful to have a seat at the table.

And even more excited about where we’re headed.

We’re just getting started👊🏼

This could change the future of OCD treatment in Canada.

But only if people know about it.

After years of talking about the gaps in OCD treatment, I decided to stop talking and start building.

I pitched the idea for what is now Canada’s first university certificate dedicated to Exposure and Response Prevention, helped develop it, and now have the privilege of teaching it through Wilfrid Laurier University in association with True North Psychotherapy.

This isn’t about adding another credential to your wall.

It’s about making sure people with OCD can actually find therapists who know how to treat it.

So here’s my ask…

Please share this. Widely.

Tag a therapist. Send it to your workplace. Forward it to a colleague. Put it in your stories.

If enough people see this, we don’t just fill a course—we change the standard of OCD treatment in Canada.

Exposure Response Prevention doesn’t make you worse.

It takes away your escape routes.

The compulsions, the reassurance, the little “just in case” moves… yeah, those.

Of course it feels uncomfortable when you stop doing them.

But uncomfortable ≠ worse.

It means you’re finally not letting OCD run the show.

Reassurance feels amazing.
For about 5 minutes.

Then OCD comes back louder… and now it wants more.

That’s the trap.

If I keep telling you “you’ll be okay,” I’m not helping you..I’m feeding the exact cycle that’s keeping you stuck.

Good ERP therapists are trained to sniff this out fast.
Not because we’re cold. Not because we don’t care.

Because we do😘

We’re not here to make your anxiety disappear in the moment.
We’re here to help you learn that you can handle it without needing someone to save you.

That’s where real freedom is.

And yeah… sometimes that means I won’t give you the answer you’re hoping for 😬

But I’ll sit with you while you learn you don’t need it.👊🏻
