Substance use changes the brain in ways that can make stopping more difficult than many people realize.

Repeated substance use can affect the brain's reward system, contributing to cravings, changes in motivation, and continued use over time.

Substance use disorder is a complex mental health condition, not a lack of willpower. Understanding how it affects the brain can help reduce stigma and encourage people to seek support.

Mental health needs can evolve over time, and treatment plans often need to evolve with them.

The Nexus Program brings together intensive stabilization, ongoing assessment, and transition planning within one coordinated program for individuals with complex mental health needs.

By supporting both immediate clinical needs and longer-term treatment planning, the Nexus Program helps ensure care remains responsive to each individual's circumstances and goals.

Care that adapts to changing needs can help create a stronger foundation for what comes next.

Self-care isn't always what social media makes it out to be.

Sometimes it looks like setting boundaries. Asking for help. Going to therapy. Taking medication as prescribed. Resting without guilt.

This International Self-Care Day, remember that caring for yourself doesn't have to be perfect or polished. It just has to support what you need.

Some individuals need more than treatment alone. They need care that adapts to their changing needs and supports them through each stage of recovery.

The Nexus Program at Homewood Health Centre brings together intensive inpatient stabilization, ongoing clinical assessment, and transition planning within one coordinated program for adults with complex mental health needs. By supporting individuals through periods of clinical instability and preparing them for the next stage of care, the program helps strengthen continuity across the recovery process.

PTSD is not always visible, and it does not only affect first responders or military personnel.

In this video, former educator Adrienne Patterson shares her journey to discovering her diagnoses of PTSD, following workplace trauma and head injuries sustained while supporting vulnerable students in the education system.

On PTSD Awareness Day, we recognize the importance of early intervention, evidence-based care, and reducing stigma around trauma and recovery.

The new Nexus program at Homewood Health Centre offers support for individuals with complex mental health needs and includes intensive stabilization, ongoing assessment and transition together in one coordinated program. The result is that individuals are better prepared for successful transition to what comes next whether that be a specialized inpatient program, outpatient care, community reintegration, or discharge home.
