One of my favourite reminders is...

"I am not being chased by a tiger."

Your nervous system does not distinguish between stressors, so it automatically assumes that if we are stressed, we are in imminent danger and responds accordingly. Oftentimes this is not the case, so I love the reminder that I am not being chased by a tiger and that, though stressed, I am okay and can make my situation better.
