The week before my trip, I was stuck in my thoughts. Spiralling about my to-do list. The presence of the quiet guilt I feel as a business owner. Feeling the tug between doing more work or closing my laptop. The feeling I often battle that tells me resting means falling behind, that being away means something will fall apart.
It wasn’t an easy decision for me to say yes to booking this trip, but I knew it was necessary. It was the gentle push I gave myself in support from others to practice what I preach and explore new opportunities amongst rest and relaxation.
✨ I am glad for that gentle push as it led to calming mornings like this one. This photo was taken at a cute boutique pilates studio in Lisbon, Portugal. ✨
That morning, I walked to the studio through the cobblestone streets with a couple others. We enjoyed the slow paced morning as the sun shone amongst the city buildings.
After a challenging, but fulfilling class we stumbled onto a market - something common amongst the streets of Lisbon. Vendors with handmade jewellery, racks of vintage clothing, watercolour paintings, you name it they had it.
As we walked the market, I felt calm and at peace. It was like something clicked for me at that moment. It was a glimmer. The lightbulb moment.
That’s the thing no one tells you about being a therapist. You can know every tool in the box and still need someone or something to remind you to use them.
✨Movement
✨Stillness
✨Sweat
✨Silence
They all count. And that is exactly what I needed.
I needed that gentle push from myself and others to recognize that it was OKAY to book this trip.
To recognize that I could connect with myself in many different ways while exploring a new country - some similar to how I would connect with myself back home.
This trip reminded me: I need what my clients need. Permission. Space. A body that moves. A mind that follows.
This trip reminded me: I am human too.
I am also deserving of moving with ease.
