Both Rezum and TURP treat BPH — benign prostatic hyperplasia, or an enlarged prostate — but they work in completely different ways. Rezum uses short bursts of water vapour delivered through the urethra. The treated tissue breaks down and is reabsorbed by the body over the following weeks. It is done in a clinic without general anaesthesia. TURP surgically removes prostate tissue using a resectoscope. It has been the standard approach for decades and is highly effective, particularly for larger prostates. Which one is right for you depends on your prostate size, anatomy, and what matters most to you during recovery. That is a conversation for your urologist — and one worth being prepared for.
