Atlantic Fertility

Atlantic Fertility Atlantic Canada’s major centre for Assisted Reproductive Therapies. AART is Atlantic Canada’s major centre for Assisted Reproductive Therapies.

Established by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology over 20 years ago. AART moved to a new state of the art facility in January 2005. Although the facility is new, Department members continue to play an important role in AART. All physicians are faculty members of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The AART team remains committed to providing a full range of therapies for those

who are having difficulty building the family they desire. AART is proud of its team and its long history of service to Atlantic Canadians. Our Outreach Program is about to develop further, making care more accessible to some women in Atlantic Canada. Please take a few moments to learn more about us.

Meet Dr. Paula Rittenberg!

Dr. Rittenberg is Royal College certified in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Gynecologic Oncology, and Palliative Medicine. She has been part of the Atlantic Fertility team since 2019 and her only gynecologic focus at this time is fertility care.

Dr. Rittenberg has a special interest in the management of PMOS and is dedicated to supporting patients through their fertility journey.

Outside of Atlantic Fertility, she also works with Hospice Halifax, continuing her commitment to compassionate care.

When she’s not working, you can find her enjoying walks and hikes, reading, watching movies and miniseries, or cheering from the sidelines at a baseball field or hockey rink. ⚾🏒

We're so lucky to have you on our team, Dr. Rittenberg!

Last week, our fellow Dr. Stepnuk presented at Department of Urology Research Day on the impact of gender-affirming hormone therapy on fertility preservation outcomes in transgender and non-binary individuals. Thank you to Dr. Jesse Ory for supervising this study!

With limited research currently available in this area, studies like this are essential to helping improve access to informed, inclusive, and evidence-based fertility care. This work is especially meaningful here in Nova Scotia, which has the highest proportion of transgender and non-binary individuals in Canada.

We are so proud to support research that helps build a more inclusive future in reproductive medicine. 🙌

Goodbye PCOS, hello PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome).

The new name highlights that this is a full hormonal and metabolic syndrome, not just an o***y issue.

PMOS is a condition where the body’s hormones are out of balance, which can affect your periods, ovulation and fertility, skin, hair, and metabolism (like blood sugar and weight). Instead of focusing only on “cysts,” this new name recognizes that PMOS is a whole-body condition involving several hormone systems.

This National Nursing Week, we are sending a BIG thank you to all the nurses who juggle charts, meds, and questions with a smile.

They're the ones offering reassurance, celebrating milestones, and supporting patients through every high and low along the way. Their kindness, patience, and compassion leave a lasting impact far beyond the walls of our clinic.

We are so grateful for everything they do — today and every day. ❤️
