Halifax Sexual Health Centre is seeking physicians to join our team! 🩺 HSHC is a non-profit clinic run by an Executive Director and Board of Directors offering inclusive sexual, reproductive, and gender-affirming health services.

Currently, we have a team of 13 physicians working part-time from 1- 4 shifts per week. Clinics are offered in half or full day format. Visits are generally by appointment only and physicians can determine how frequently to book visits within the clinic timeframe. We use Telus MedAccess EMR and a text reminder service. Clinics are fee-for-service. Clinics are additionally supported by staff RNs, Gender-Affirming Care Coordinator, MSW, and pelvic physiotherapist.

For more information, please contact our Medical Director, Dr. Julie Gibson, at [email protected] and/or our Executive Director, Abbey Ferguson, at [email protected].

“I’ve never had so many people tell me that I saved their life.”

When Dr. Sarah Fraser graduated from medical school, she wasn’t planning to build a career in gender affirming care. Today, she calls it the most rewarding work she has ever done.

In this profile, Fraser reflects on her unexpected path to opening her clinic, Coastal Gender Affirming Care, and the profound impact this care can have on people’s lives.

Nova Scotia Health's One Patient One Record (OPOR) goes live in Central Zone on May 9, 2026. As an independent clinic, HSHC will continue to use MedAccess for our medical records. However, patients can expect to see a slow down in other health departments, such as specialist appointments, surgeries, and imaging appointments. Medical records (blood work and STI test results, imaging results, specialist notes, etc) may take longer than usual to be sent to HSHC.

We will continue to use a ‘no news is good news’ system, however, please allow up to 1 week for bloodwork results, up to 3 weeks for STI results, and up to 8 weeks for cervical screening (Pap test) results. Patients can also use the YourHealthNS app to check in on completed results.

OPOR will be a new experience for all of Central Zone. We thank you for your patience!
