Did you know The Marguerite Centre's recovery program is gender-responsive and trauma-informed. Our approach centres on the evidence-based methods developed by Dr. Stephanie S. Covington, internationally recognized clinician, author, and pioneer in addiction and trauma treatment.

In a world, where the vast majority of treatment models are tailor-made for men, we are so grateful for Dr. Covington's groundbreaking work which paved the way for women to find their way in recovery. Check our her recent conversation on the .

💖 Double Grad Celebration 💖

Today we celebrated two strong, resiliant women over chicken wings, cheesecake, and lots of hugs. They both put in 6 months of daily commitment to their recovery and deep dedication to program. They developed new routines, built coping strategies, found joy, and made positive connections. But most importantly they learned to love themselves.

Their words to their fellow residents focused on growth, change, boundaries, safety, and opening a path to a whole new future that once seemed impossible. We are so proud of you!

Did you know that our graduation celebrations are made possible in part by Feed Nova Scotia's Holiday Fund and the generousity of individual donors.

💜 September is Recovery Month 💜

Recovery is not one-size-fits-all, and it doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a journey made up of courage, connection, growth, and taking things one day at a time.

This Recovery Month, we’re celebrating the strength of those on a path of recovery and recognizing that recovery is possible. Your past does not define your future. Recovery is a journey, and you don’t have to walk it alone.

At the Marguerite Centre, we believe in creating space for women to heal, rebuild, reconnect, and move forward, at their own pace and in their own way. Learn more about our approach to recovery on our website at themargueritecentre.com.

The Marguerite Centre is so grateful for the support of our funders and partners who help keep this place moving. is an incredible support providing weekly deliveries to offset our food costs. We could not do it without them or our creative and resourceful staff team.

In the wee hours of the night House and Property Coordinator, Nicole, claimed a food rescue full of wonderful produce. Nicole and Intake and Outreach Coordinator, Claire, collected the items and began prepping along with our residents. We had a lovely salad bar and strawberry shortcake for lunch. Our fridge and freezer is stocked with produce and we had enough to share with margaretsbayfoodbank .

Not only do these efforts help keep our operating costs down, the house was full of joy, we connected over nutritious fresh food, we helped reduce food waste, and supported our local community.

Thanks team!

Yesterday, The Marguerite Centre had the pleasure of hosting Honorable Brian Comer , Minister of the NS Office of Addictions and Mental Health and his team including Jennifer Glennie, KC, Deputy Minister, Kimberly Stewart, Associate Deputy Minister, Heather Ternoway, Senior Executive Director, and Peter Oyedijo, Speical Advisor to the Minister. It was a great oppotunty to discuss the essential services we provide to women across Nova Scotia. We discussed the demand for our programs, the need for province-wide collaboration across the system, and the importance of sustained investment in evidence and trauma-informed women-specific recovery services across Nova Scotia.

Graduation day is the perfect way to start off our week! When she arrived, 6 months felt like forever but today her words to her housemates were "make the most of your time because it goes so fast." While goodbyes are hard you have a backpack full of tools and strategies. The road ahead is full of opportunities. We are very proud of you!

Yesterday we had the pleasure of hosting MLAs Mr. Rankin, Ms. Druhan, and Mr. Mombourquette. Thank you to Iain Rankin and his colleagues for taking the time to visit our Centre and learn more about our mission and the essential services we provide to women across Nova Scotia.
We discussed the growing demand for our programs, the challenges faced by those we serve, and the critical need for sustained investment in community-based organizations. Meaningful dialogue with elected officials is vital to ensuring that all women have access to the support they need.

Yesterday's gorgeous summer day was the perfect opportunity for the house to enjoy a bbq on our lovely property. Burgers (meat and veggie), dogs, and pasta salad with a dose of sunshine and vitamin D for to boost serotonin and support brain health. Sunscreen required! 😎🌞

A vision board can be a bridge between where you are and you want to be. It can provide a visual reminder that helps center our recovery goals and redirect negative thoughts.

Last week residents created beautiful vision boards for their rooms. They included powerful reminders of self-love, strength, resilience, gratitude, and motivation. Check our a few snippets from these lovely creations.
