Each year, September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Today, we honour the survivors of the residential school system, their families and communities at large.

In Canada, this commemoration of the reconciliation process across the country is crucial. It deepens our collective awareness of this history and ensures ongoing reflection across the country for many years.

No matter how you choose to observe the day, we can all contribute toward a better future by acknowledging this tragic part of Canadian history — and its ongoing impact in our communities today.

Handmade cards, crafted with love.🥺💕

Ressam Gardens residents spent the morning getting creative and making homemade cards for their loved ones.

Activities like these are facilitated and guided by our Life Enrichment team, like Jill, who led today’s activity. These crafts and activities help stimulate our residents and keep them cognitively engaged.

Music is therapy. 💚

Joyce, a Ressam Gardens resident, has played music her entire life and it has always been an integral piece of her spirit. As a retired teacher, she has fond memories of playing music in class with her students.

Now, in her new home of Ressam Gardens, she can continue to play the music that lights her up. 🎵✨

Meet the Ressam Gardens team 👋

Brenna is our Life Enrichment Manager, and ensures we provide our residents with opportunities for meaningful activities that follow best practices in dementia care.

She has experience working with the Behavioural Support Ontario network as a recreation consultant and brings expertise in non-pharmacological interventions for people living with dementia.

Brenna is passionate about changing the culture of dementia care and believes in empowering our residents to pursue those hobbies and skills that make them unique.

When she’s not at work, you can find Brenna watercolour painting, playing team sports, or hiking with her two dogs, Gnocchi and Libby.
