People are always curious about what it's like co-owning a therapy practice with my mom.

The answer is that we've had to learn to see each other differently. Not just as mother and daughter, but as business partners working toward the same goal.

That has meant learning new ways to communicate, creating clear boundaries, and knowing when a conversation is about work and when it's about family.

Working alongside family can be incredibly rewarding, and those lessons have helped us build a practice we're both proud of. πŸ’™

We bought What to Do When You Feel Like Hitting by Cara Goodwin () because my daughter had been struggling with hitting. We've been using it to talk about feelings, empathy, and different ways to respond when big emotions show up.

In my work with children and families, I spend a lot of time talking about emotional regulation and empathy. As a mom, moments like this remind me that children are listening, learning, and absorbing more than we realize. πŸ’›

This is your reminder that you don't have to run yourself into the ground to justify needing support. 🀲🏽

Rest doesn't have to be a last resort, and neither does asking for help.

Taking care of yourself isn't something that needs to be earned. It's something you deserve. 🀍

A lot of people assume they'd have to set their faith aside when they walk into a therapist's office. That they'd have to separate what they believe from what they're working through.

Faith-based therapy recognizes that your spirituality isn't something to work around. It's part of who you are, and it can be part of the conversation.

It's still grounded in evidence-based therapeutic approaches. The difference is that your beliefs, values, and faith are welcome in the room too.

If you're looking for faith-based support, you can connect with Tianna through the link in our bio. πŸ“©

The advice to ""just ask for help"" often overlooks the barriers that can make reaching out difficult.

Many people assume that if someone needs support, they'll naturally seek it out. In reality, the decision to talk to someone can be shaped by years of experiences, expectations, and beliefs about what being strong is supposed to look like.

Mental health conversations become more effective when we spend less time asking why someone hasn't reached out and more time understanding what may be making that step difficult in the first place.

And if you've been thinking about starting therapy, we're here when you're ready. πŸ’›

You know that feeling when you've been driving somewhere familiar and suddenly realize you don't remember the last few turns? Or you walk into a room and completely forget why you went there?

When you're stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed, it can be hard to stay connected to what's happening around you.

Grounding techniques are tools that can help bring your attention back to the present moment. They can help when you're caught in a spiral of what ifs, replaying a conversation, or feeling overwhelmed. 🌿

Try these 5 techniques next time you feel disconnected. 🫢🏽

Working on Abigail's Adventures has been one of the most rewarding parts of my work as an author and Registered Social Worker.

In both spaces, I see how much it matters for children to feel like their world exists in the stories around them. Their hair, their families, their culture, their heritage. It affects how children see themselves and what they believe is possible for them.

What's in Your Hair and Abigail's Giant Family Tree were written so children could see their culture, their family, and their identity represented with care and pride. πŸŒ±πŸ’›
