For many women, a Caesarean birth was not part of the plan. Circumstances change, decisions are made, and suddenly the birth you imagined looks very different.
Alongside the joy and gratitude of welcoming your baby, there may also be disappointment, guilt, sadness or even the feeling that somehow your body let you down.
And then life carries on.
There is a newborn to care for, perhaps older children at home, a household to manage, and very little time to consider what your own body has just experienced.
A C-section is major abdominal surgery, and recovery does not always end when the incision heals.
Tightness, tenderness, altered sensation and restricted tissue mobility can sometimes linger for months or even years.
As a Registered Massage Therapist, I believe abdominal massage and scar therapy deserve more conversation. Once healing is complete, gentle treatment may help improve tissue mobility and ease some of that lingering discomfort.
Our bodies tell stories. Pregnancy, childbirth and surgery all leave their marks, both physically and sometimes emotionally.
I recognize that abdominal massage may feel unfamiliar or a little daunting. If you are curious but uncertain, I warmly invite you to reach out for a conversation first.
No pressure to book, simply an opportunity to ask questions, understand what treatment involves and decide whether it feels right for you.
You have spent so much time caring for everyone else. There is room to care for yourself, too.
Whether your Caesarean birth was recent or many years ago, your recovery still matters.
