“None of this was their fault”

Lindsay, your words mean more than you will ever know. Your commitment and desire to make a difference with each of your clients is felt in your presence each and every time you sit in the room.

Lindsay brings an incredible amount of compassion to her work and a huge amount of lightness and laughter. Lindsay carries our clients through trauma work, OCD, parenting support, relationship difficulties and of course a passion for creating space for those touched by Eating Disorders.

Thank you Lindsay for bringing me to tears and laughter with your beautiful heart. 💙

Paula Shepard MSW, RSW talks about the power of holding two truths at a time.

"I have talked a lot about "two things can be true" or multiple truths can occur at the same time. I find that this is a theme that comes up with mothers or women wanting to be mothers. ie. a fertility journey, You can be happy for your friend who's pregnant and sad for yourself that you're still working to conceive. Or loving your mother and being hurt by actions that fostered self-doubt."

Paula reflects on the 'let them' trend.
"The "let them" trend. I find it's confusing people. I have seen clients release responsibility for other's behaviours and/or emotions but then not realize that they can still have boundaries and expectations with that person."

Paula does amazing work with couples, men, women and seniors, I love the way she looks at supporting the entire family unit and the experience she brings to our space.

Thank you Paula for everything you do for us.

I really appreciated this reflection from Sasha when asked what she finds herself saying in sessions lately,

"One thing I’m talking about with clients a lot lately is ‘roles’ especially for women taking on way too much."

Sasha's giving her clients space to explore "Why do you think you're taking on that role?"

So much of this work revolves around giving yourself the opportunity to pause and reflect on patterns that are deeply engrained. Personally, when I asked myself this question the answer ranges from "because no one else will" to "because it feels good and is rewarding." Very different impact, very different action to take after each reflection.

Big thank you to Sasha for offering space for women to question those roles we take on and what function they serve.

From Sasha's bio:

What phrases or sayings have people used to describe their work with you?

"People have told me they can tell I'm a pretty fervent feminist, and I would definitely agree! I think that is just such a big part of my life and it comes out in therapy sessions. Clients have also told me that at first they didn't have faith in the power of small changes, but I was able to convince them!"

Things we've been known to say in session, Shelagh Keesmaat edit,

“You never need to apologize for having emotions.”
“There’s no judgement here.”

Shelagh recently reflected on supporting grief. I love how she puts this important work,

"I’ve recently noticed a lot of people are talking about grief. In addition to grieving the death of a loved one, people are also talking about more ambiguous losses, such as the loss of a relationship, kids leaving home, the loss of one’s ability to do something they enjoy, and regrets about time or energy “wasted” that can never be recovered. While these ambiguous losses can be more difficult to identify, they are important to address and process. "

Thank you Shelagh for being such a huge part of this team. We would be lost without your steady, consistent and inspiring presence. 💙

Andrea Driedger | RP (Qualifying) Andrea Driedger speaks to what she hears herself saying in sessions, along with a reflection about the trends she's seeing in the therapy world.

I've been on the receiving end of these words from Andrea,
"It makes so much sense that you feel that way."
I can tell you with confidence that the validation and genuine care I feel in her presence made a huge difference.

Hearing the words from our therapists and getting a feel for how they approach this work is important. Hearing 'the trends' and noting the glimmers we're noticing in this space gives me so much hope and reminds me why we do this work.

Thank you, Andrea for choosing our space to share your gift.

"Can I give you something to ponder between now and when I see you next?"

A phrase Remi often uses in her sessions with her clients. A gentle, thoughtful way of asking permission to give a summary, some homework or some feedback at the end of sessions.

We are so grateful to have Remi on our team. Remi first approached Carly about a placement opportunity in September 2022. Carly was incredibly impressed by Remi's determination to work in this field and her ability to advocate for the needs of clients before she even started!

We were very lucky to have Remi join us in of May 2023. In her first year with us she has shown that this is the field she’s meant to be in. Her calm energy, her dedication to learning and her experience have made her an asset to her clients here already.

Remi is excelling in her work with people with Eating Disorders, Anxiety, Depression and relationship challenges. She has recently developed a keen interest in working more with people impacted by OCD.

Remi is with us in person on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and is with us online throughout the rest of the week.

Thank you Remi. I appreciate you for always offering me a space to share the latest embarrassing thing I've done and our regular debate over whether we should do a decaf or full caffeine coffee;)

Part 2 of CCP does summertime.

Out in the city.
Puppies.
Sports.
Nature.

Love seeing how everyone does rest around here. 💙

Sasha taking advantage of some theatre.

Then some multitasking sports mom action. Sasha Pivarnyik

Another CCP pup, Shelagh's dog. I mean come on!

We know how much Shelagh and I love the little frogs.

Love that this special lady took sometime to recharge in this beautiful space.

Last one from Shelagh, a dragon fly coming to say hello💙

Marcia Nazartchyk, RP - CCP and I spending a night away from the office💙

Then we found this special lady Luisa Di Iorio 💙

I took sometime to hang out down a river.

Good vibes is a tradition I can't miss each year.

Hosted some special people with some amazing dessert.

I've been spending a lot of time in the garden. Mainly weeding and never finding a matching set of gardening shoes. I blame the following picture for the missing shoes...

My love, Rae she's been my shadow as always. Through every season.

Kinda chic to face some hard truths at the end of a long week.

Someone recently said to me "I didn't think you ever struggled like that, you always look like you have it together." WOW. If you only knew.

Some hard truths that have taken up various amounts of space for me in the last several months.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone. 💙
