Indigenous Services Canada recently issued a health alert for blastomycosis.

Blastomycosis is a rare but serious fungal infection. The fungal spores that cause it (Blastomyces) exist naturally in our environment. Unfortunately, there is no vaccine against Blastomycosis. There is also no environmental control product to eradicate the fungus from the soil.

Although there is no evidence to support use of any specific personal protective equipment (no proof it will definitely protect you), you can consider wearing the following when you are performing any activity that disturbs soil, especially when your face will be near the soil:
- work gloves
- long pants and sleeves
- enclosed footwear
- a dust mask and eye protection

Immunocompromised individuals should especially consider avoiding exposure to disturbed soil, especially in moist, acidic areas (e.g. forests, bogs, and wetlands).

Today was our first day back with the Walking Group 😊 Feeling great after moving our bodies. Today we lasted 40 minutes. Great because I’ve only been walking 20 minutes when I walk on my own. You can come and walk any time that you’d like. You can walk for just a few minutes or longer. You do what you can do 😊 Next walking group is on Monday from 10-11 at the hall. See you there!
