Have you tried to get your child in to visit with us in the past? Been placed on a waiting list? Take this as your sign to connect with us! 👋🤩

Miranda is accepting new clients, and she would love to meet with you to discuss your family's communication goals. Haley also has availability in August and September.

At HSLS, we believe therapy works best when children feel seen, valued, and in the driver’s seat of their own learning. ✨

Neurodiversity-Affirming: We celebrate every child's unique way of thinking, communicating, and interacting with the world. Rather than trying to "fix" or change who they are, our goal is to build on their natural strengths, support their individual sensory and communication needs, and foster genuine self-confidence. ✨

Child-Led & Play-Based: Children learn most effectively when they are genuinely engaged. We follow your child's lead, incorporating their specific interests, passions, and choices into every session. By honoring their autonomy, therapy feels like a safe, joyful, and collaborative experience rather than a set of demands. ✨

We would love to support your family’s journey with care that respects and honors exactly who your child is. ✨

y As stated in another post, euphemisms generally make the person speaking feel more comfortable, but inadvertently imply that the proper term has a negative connotation. According to a study from 2016, individuals have found that the term "special needs" is more offensive than the word "disabled."

https://www.parents.com/why-you-should-not-say-special-needs-8619300

Disabled people don't have different needs than anyone else: they may access different supports to have their needs met.

Talk to your kids about disability. Talk to your families about being inclusive. Disability is part of being a human being, and it is not a bad word!

Some examples of societal challenges for folks with disabilities include:

- Lack of compliance with disability rights laws
- Failing to incorporate accessibility into building design plans or city planning
- Buildings that do not include braille on signs, elevator buttons, etc.
- Building inaccessible websites
- Assuming that people with disabilities want or need to be ‘fixed.’
- Refusing to provide reasonable accommodations when they are requested

Most accommodations that are helpful to disabled individuals are usually helpful for all. They just make sense!
