What is pelvic floor physiotherapy?
Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialized area of physiotherapy that focuses on assessing and treating concerns related to the pelvic floor and the muscles, tissues, and surrounding areas that support it.
At Reactivate Muskoka, Sierra takes a whole-body approach to pelvic health. Depending on your concerns and what you’re comfortable with, an assessment may look at things like movement, breathing, muscle strength and coordination, lifestyle habits, and the function of the pelvic floor. An internal assessment may be appropriate in some cases, but it is not always necessary and you will never be forced to have one.
Pelvic floor physiotherapy can support people experiencing a variety of pelvic health concerns, including bladder control changes, pelvic organ prolapse, postpartum concerns, and other changes affecting pelvic floor function.
Treatment is individualized and may include exercises, manual therapy, education, behavioural strategies, and lifestyle modifications.
