Hello Ile a la Crosse and surrounding communities

We are seeing a very high rate of Influenza A currently in the area. It is normal to see more viral respiratory infections in the winter months but this amount of flu is abnormally high.

If you or your family members have symptoms (typically fever with cough/muscle aches/tiredness/sore throat/headache and sometime nausea/vomiting) please stay home and away from others. We know this is difficult especially during the holiday season but flu is highly infectious.

For most people influenza makes someone feel awful but does not need medical treatment. Rest, fluids and tylenol/ibuprofen are sufficient most of the time. We can treat patients for influenza who are at high risk for complications. Young children, elderly patients and those with serious medical conditions are highest risk.

You do not need to come to the ER or clinic unless you are experiencing severe symptoms - particularly shortness of breath or unable to drink and keep down fluids - or a higher risk patient. The hospital is full and the ER is very busy. We are doing our best to see people in a timely fashion so please be patient if you need to come to the hospital.
