Due to staffing issues public health will need to cut some services. People need to call a dental clinic in Yellowknife or Whitehorse and book their own dental appointment. They will need to give their health care card number, date of birth and issue they need dealt with. The dental clinics will then do the paperwork for NIHB. If a person thinks they need antibiotics for an abscess we will continue seeing and treating people for this. Our apologies if this is more difficult but we do not have the capacity to continue doing dental referrals at this time. As we have no clerk presently please leave a message if no one answers 678-8037 and we will return your call as soon as we are able to.

Due to recent amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act the only professionals that can complete a driver’s medical is a medical doctor or a nurse practitioner. Public Health therefore can no longer provide this service and apologize for the inconvenience this may cause the public.

You may have seen the alarming number of children very sick with the flu in southern Canada. If you are travelling over the holidays or even staying home consider getting your children immunized against the flu and don’t let that bug ruin the holidays. They have a choice of a needle or nasal mist.
