September is FASD Awareness Month, an opportunity to build understanding, challenge stigma, and share research and perspectives that contribute to a more informed and balanced understanding of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

In recognition, the Journal of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is spotlighting an FASD Fact of the Week each week, featuring research from the Journal.

Our first fact: FASD can affect practical learning skills.

FASD is a neurodevelopmental disability, and support needs can include practical skills such as visual-motor integration and handwriting.

This week’s featured article from researchers at The Kids Research Institute Australia & The University of Western Australia assesses and characterizes motor performance among young people in an Australian youth detention centre and explores the relationship between motor skills, FASD, and prenatal alcohol exposure.
