Reaching 🌀movement + somatic concept 🌀

Are you reaching beyond your centre?
How far can you reach and still feel connected to your values, self, integrity?
How long have you been reaching?

Reaching = giving, extending, reaching out, reaching for social connection (for attention, conflict resolution, etc).

Those who reach are often generous, extremely empathetic humans. Some of the biggest hearts in the world.

Are there moments you allow others to do the reaching towards you? How does it feel to wait? ❤️‍🔥

REACHING as movement research

What action do you do when you hear the word REACH?
How do you reach (without thinking)?
Do you use your right arm?
Does it fully extend?
What height and in what direction did you reach?

Playing around with it..
Can you invite your whole right side into your reach?
When you reach, what part of you stays still?
What does it feel like to reach with different body parts?
What are you reaching for?

Bodies in Space

This workshop was a bit of a detour from my usual Pleasure Viewing. Pleasure wasn’t absent, but it wasn’t our point of reference either. We entered the space together, adults and children and tiny little adorable babies, and we were met with overlapping sound scores of the exhibition and the live bodies in the space.

We started in our own bodies and moved outward towards the collective body. Bringing attention to how we respond to others in shared spaces - how we take up or give up space, how we offer and recieve inspiration, and finally..how we disrupt spaces with our bodies.

This workshop was a beautiful reminder that disrupting just means getting curious about patterns and seeing what happens when we do something different?

Continued gratitude to the curators, artists and organizations that presented this exhibition and invited in these explorations - still up! Go check it out kamloops!

ADHD mom + AuDHD kid with a creative crafting side…

Our home is set up for deep sensory seeking - swing, pole, crash and climb couch, soft mat, fidget box..
It means it looks like a playhouse, but it also means my kid spends a lot of time self-regulating.

AND because ny kid is very much into imagination and creation, it’s almost constantly filled with crafts, altars, homes for stuffies, stables for horses, ledges for potions…

I am not consistent enough to have a regular clean up schedule (tried that and it failed and just made me feeel bad for not being able to remember) so I have come to accept the mess and we clean it up once the area has gone untouched for a few days.

We have a small apartment. I’m pretty easily overstimulated by mess and noise. And I am a single parent so there’s no one else here to keep things on track. Sometimes the mess makes me feel overwhelmed. I share that with my kid and ask that we put it away together and then offer up a small area to create a sneaky space for the toy of the day.

Sometimes I just need it all to go away. Sometimes I let multiple places exist at once. It’s not perfect, but I must admit it’s pretty cool to see the number of things created and the detail put into the work. And if I ask about it, I get to see the excitement and we delight in the magic together✨

Heart openers anyone?

Hey mama’s, this one’s for you! Our world shrinks when we birth into the world a little human. We curve forward in a constant shape of “caregiving”. Heres some movement to open that heart and release the shoulders and pecs!

ps. what beautiful work you’re doing ✨

Oh, this is also an exercise for anyone that has a cellphone, computer or laptop and gets slouchy hunchy posture accompanied by sore neck and shoulder muscles.

Bedtime Boundary Ritual

A somatic way to connect to your boundaries, bodies and nature while reclaiming your energy before bed. Best done outside in a windy field to recreate the reality of a pushy boundary.
