Sun exposure and Laser treatments don't mix!

Laser treatments are often transformative for pigment correction, skin resurfacing, acne scars and targeting redness for Rosacea.

Lasers use focused light energy to target these specific concerns. Post-treatment, your skin is more vulnerable to UV rays. Even a short amount of unprotected sun exposure can cause irritation, redness, swelling or burning. The melanocytes in your skin are sensitized by the laser, and if exposed to direct UV rays, may trigger melanin production, causing dark spots. This is called "post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation" (PIH).

These spots can be difficult to treat.

Unprotected sun exposure post-laser Tx may also delay healing, and the benefits you may have achieved are now compromised. This may require more treatment sessions, resulting in higher costs to achieve your aesthetic goals.

To ensure the best outcomes from laser treatments, it's best to:

1) Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your Tx
2) Use broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, containing Zinc and Titanium
3) Wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and wide-brimmed hats

If you are spending time at the lake, travelling somewhere sunny, working outdoors, or know SPF reapplication will not be realistic, we may recommend waiting or choosing a different treatment.

Safe treatment planning is part of good results. 🫶
