They assume that after enough talks, enough stages, and enough experience... the fear disappears.
For me, it hasn’t.
Last night, I was invited to join another doctors’ panel next week. This one will be live, on stage, in front of more than 4,000 people.
A few years ago, I couldn’t have imagined saying yes to something like this.
Not because I didn’t have something to say... but because public speaking genuinely terrified me.
The interesting part is that it still does.
Before every talk, I still feel the nerves. I still question myself. I still wonder if I’m the right person to be standing there.
But I’ve learned that feeling uncomfortable doesn’t always mean you’re on the wrong path.
Sometimes it’s simply a sign you’re growing.
I didn’t go from terrified to confident overnight. It started with one small Zoom. Then another. Then a small room. Then a bigger audience. Every time I said yes, I stretched just a little further.
It never became easy.
It just became familiar enough to take the next step.
And I certainly didn’t do it alone.
The encouragement, belief, and support of people who saw more in me than I could see in myself made all the difference.
Looking back, I’ve realized this has been true in every area of my life.
Leaving medicine.
Questioning everything I thought I knew about health.
Building a new business.
Getting on stages.
None of it started with confidence.
It started with a willingness to keep saying yes, even while I was scared.
That’s what growth really is, isn’t it?
Not waiting until fear disappears...
But becoming someone who no longer lets fear decide.
What area of your life is asking you to grow right now?
