What to Expect if you’re new to Acupuncture
First off, you'll be greeted by your practitioner, someone who cares a whole lot about your health and wellbeing (hello 🤗)
Then they’ll ask you a bunch of questions in regard to your main complaint, health, habits, and general physiology. This allows us to gain an understanding of what's going on with your body as a whole.
Following the intake, your practitioner will likely ask to feel your pulse and look at your tongue, this allows them to further understand what takes priority in your treatment protocol.
If you are interest in or are a good fit for a custom Chinese herbal formula, that will be discussed.
After the assessment, it is time for treatment. Almost always this consists of Acupuncture, however the amount of which and if we do so, entirely depends on you. Needles can be intimidating, thus there will be lots of checking in & making sure you are comfortable with the process.
You might also experience some Tui Na Massage, Cupping, Moxibustion, &/or Gua Sha. If you have a special interest in any of these modalities, please feel free to bring it up at the beginning of treatment so we can see about providing them for you.
Depending on your body's individual needs, we might acupuncture on the front side of your body, the back, or in some cases both as you lay on your side.
Your treatment may be a little bit different each time you come in, as your body has ever changing needs. However you will always be draped appropriately, treated thoughtfully, and ensured complete confidentiality.
After the needles are placed, you will be left for a little while to rest (Anywhere from 10-30 minutes) Your practitioner will check on you during this time to make sure everything is still feeling good.
Once the treatment is finished, you might expect to feel a little different, perhaps a bit sleepy, sometimes a bit spacey, but ultimately more calm and grounded. Feeling relaxed is an incredible and healing side effect of Acupuncture. Medical shifts happen at different rates for each individual, but relaxation is always the first step and your body's journey to feeling & functioning differently.
So, now that you’ve got an idea on what to expect, come on it and give acupuncture a try!
