Take a deep breath in... and out. 🌬️✨

Did that rare Blue Moon leave you feeling anxious or physically depleted?

The science behind this—whether it’s the moon, a shift in your physical environment, or just the weight of what you’re carrying around—comes down to your nervous system.

Your brain’s job is to create allostasis, not homeostasis. Instead of keeping things static, it dynamically allocates—or reallocates—your energy to meet the demands of your life.

Think of your system like a power bank 🔋.

With so many "apps" running in your life right now, your brain is constantly moving energy to where it’s needed most. That depletion or sudden uptake you’re feeling? It’s completely real, and it’s just your system trying to manage the load.

If nobody has offered you compassion today... I send all my compassion to you. 🫂❤️

🔋 3 Ways to Recharge the Power Bank:

Close the Background Apps: Minimize sensory overload. Dim the lights, turn off background noise, and give your mind a break from processing text or media.

Replenish the Fuel Cells: Allostasis drains physical resources. Rehydrate and eat a nourishing meal to give your cells actual metabolic power.

Co-Regulate Outside: Spend 10 minutes in nature. The predictable environment allows your threat-detection apps to close so you can step into true rest.

Be gentle with your system this week. 🌿

Happy Wilderness Wednesday 🌸🏔️ 👇

Okay, here is your quick reminder to stop scrolling, take a deep breath in... and out. 🤍
If nobody has told you today: everything blossoms right on time. 🌿✨

When life gets busy, our brains can over think. But nature never overthinks its growth. The wildflowers don’t rush to compete with the mountains; they simply open up when they are ready.

Your nervous system craves that same permission to just be. Give yourself permission to blossom with time. đź’¨

Waking up with 100,000 open tabs? 🤯💻 👇

Ever open your eyes and feel like your brain is already running at 100 miles an hour? Like you suddenly realise there are a million different tabs open in that beautiful head of yours?

Don’t worry—me too. 🪵✨

When we wake up in this state, our brains are instantly bouncing between tabs: worrying about emails, stressing about getting to work on time, or researching the future. When our daily routine is built around these high-stress behaviours, it can quickly lead to burnout.

But here is your gentle reminder: You can actually rewire your brain. 🧠

We don't create healthy new habits by doing a massive life overhaul. We do it by taking micro-breaks. Every time you pause, tune in, and take small steps, you build the foundation for real, significant change.

So, if nobody has told you today, or given you permission to slow down:

💨 Take that deep breath in.

✨ Check in with yourself.

❌ Gently close some of those tabs.

You’ve got this. 🌿

"If nobody has told you today: go touch some dirt." 👋🌲

Getting back out on nature trails isn’t always easy. Our relationship with the outdoors can be complicated—especially when we are recovering from a scary accident or trying something new. 🩹🚴

Practising regulation is about tuning in to be exactly where you're at. It means acknowledging the worry or the fast heartbeat, and breathing with it instead of fighting it.
Nature can be there to help us ground down and tune in if we allow it. 🌱🍂

Navigating the collective heaviness together. 💧🌱
Walking alongside the Kamloops community means acknowledging the weight of our ongoing water issues. When a basic necessity like water feels uncertain, it triggers a "survival alarm" in the nervous system that can be exhausting to carry. 🧠
The recent rain across Secwépemcúl̓ecw has been a welcome favour for the land. It serves as a gentle reminder: just as the earth needs to be replenished to grow, our own internal systems need moments of reprieve and care.
Take a small moment today to water your own roots (meaning a quiet check-in with your own nervous system, as we look for ways to find calm while conserving our local resources).
Reminder to be gentle with yourself and others. ✨

Your brain reacts to difficult memories similarly to how it reacts to a physical accident. 🧠💥

When we experience a shock or a memory that feels "too big," our nervous system takes over to keep us safe. It doesn't wait for us to "think"—it sends physical signals immediately.

The Signals:

Hyper-arousal: Feeling intense, jumpy, or on edge.

Hypo-arousal: Feeling foggy, numb, or slowed down.

Neither is a mistake. These aren't malfunctions; they are signals being sent so you can respond. 🛡️

A goal in therapy can be becoming the boss of your own body. It’s about learning to listen to these shifts so you can hit the pause button—or the play button—and come back to your center. ⏸️▶️

If things feel a bit "too big" or "too small" today, just remember: that’s okay. Your body is just trying to be a good teammate.

You’ve got this. 🌿✨

May the 4th: Reconciling & Sur-thriving
"We are the spark that ignites the fire." đź’«
On this May the 4th, I’m reflecting on the powerful legacy of Jeffrey McNeil-Seymour. Jeff was a Registered Social Worker, a Master in Social Justice, and a respected Two-Spirit leader who knew that healing isn't just internal—it’s about reconciling with ourselves, the land, and our togetherness.
Jeff was a huge Star Wars fan, and he used that passion to teach us about "surthrivance"—the art of not just surviving trauma, but becoming more beautiful through the mending of our stories. He taught us how to honour our history while building a future of neighbourly connection and collective strength.
If you are feeling alone today, or if you are simply interested in how we can move forward together with strength and grace, I invite you to watch his TEDx talk. Let his wisdom be your guide in reimagining a future where we all belong.
Remember that we all have a spark, and I hope that you can share that with the world. May Jeff's knowledge live on through our actions, and may the 4th be with you all. 🌌✨

There is so much power in the collective energy of this community. ❤️

I’m at Boogie the Bridge today, but in a different capacity—taking it all in from the sidelines. While I love the movement of this event, my body asked for rest today, and I’m choosing to honor that.

Wellness looks different every day. Sometimes it’s pushing for a personal best, and sometimes it’s being present in the moment, soaking up the spirit of the crowd and listening to what you truly need.

So proud of everyone out here today. Sending so much strength to every runner, walker, roller, and volunteer in the Sea of Red. Community wellness is about all of us showing up for ourselves and each other, however that looks today. 🌉✨
