**Tired of being the one who has to think about everything?**
Not just *doing* everything. Thinking about everything.
What's for dinner. Who needs to be where. The appointment that needs booking. The groceries. The laundry. The kids. The dog. The weekend plans. And somewhere in there, whether the two of you are actually okay.
This is the **mental load**, and it can create a surprisingly painful cycle between couples.
One partner is thinking:
**“If you cared, I wouldn't have to ask.”**
While the other is thinking:
**“If you needed me, you would ask.”**
Both can end up feeling hurt, resentful and completely misunderstood.
I wrote this article about what happens when one person becomes responsible for so much of the noticing, planning and thinking in a relationship—including why “just tell me what you need” often doesn't feel helpful.
More importantly, I talk about how couples get caught in this pattern, what each partner may unknowingly be doing to keep it going, and how to start talking about it differently.
