Counselling is about more than simply seeing clients.

As therapists, we’re continually learning, growing, and expanding our knowledge so we can better understand and support the people who trust us with their stories.

While I’m on maternity leave, I’ve been using some of this time to continue my professional development by completing training in perinatal mental health.

This area of practice is especially meaningful to me because the journey into parenthood can bring so many complex emotions and life changes — from fertility challenges and pregnancy, to pregnancy and infant loss, birth, postpartum, and the transition into parenthood.

My hope is to deepen my understanding of these experiences so that I can provide thoughtful, informed, and compassionate support to clients navigating them.

There is always more to learn. And when we know better, we can support our clients better.

A new chapter for HQ Therapy 🤍

Over the past few months, life has looked a little different. I stepped away on maternity leave, welcomed another little one into our family, and gave myself the space to slow down and be present for a season that mattered deeply to me.

And somewhere in that slowing down, HQ Therapy began to evolve, too.

I’m so excited to share a refreshed brand, a new website, and a vision that feels even more aligned with the kind of space I want HQ Therapy to be.

A place that feels steady. Safe. Human.

A place where you don’t have to have everything figured out before you walk through the door.

I’m still easing back into my practice and currently supporting my existing clients as needed, while I settle into this new season of motherhood and work.

Welcome to the new HQ Therapy đź’š

Hi, I’m Hayley. 🤍

I’m not just a psychotherapist.

I’m a daughter.
A sister.
A wife.
A mother.
A friend.
And so much more.

I have good days and hard days.
I get overwhelmed.
I laugh until my stomach hurts.
I make mistakes.
I celebrate the little things.
I’m constantly learning about myself and the people around me.

Being a therapist is one part of who I am — but it isn’t all of me.

And maybe that’s one of the things I value most about therapy:

You are never just one thing, either.

You’re allowed to bring your whole, complicated, beautiful, imperfect self into the room. 🤍

Sometimes staying where we are feels safer.

We know what to expect.
We know how to navigate it.
Change feels uncomfortable.

But comfort and contentment aren’t always the same thing.

Sometimes the life you want requires you to take a risk, set a boundary, have the difficult conversation, let go of what no longer fits, or step into something unfamiliar.

You don’t have to change everything overnight.

But it may be worth asking yourself:

Am I staying because I’m happy here—or because I’m afraid of what comes next?

Your comfort zone can feel safe, but it can also quietly become the place where your dreams get postponed.

The therapeutic relationship matters.

What do you look for in a therapist? These are just some basic traits that come to mind. What am I missing?

As a therapist myself, I would say I’m someone who isn’t afraid to challenge you, laugh with you, sit in silence with you, admit when they’re wrong, and tell you the truth with compassion.

Everyone’s window is different, and it can change over time. Factors such as trauma, chronic stress, poor sleep, illness, or major life events can temporarily narrow your window, making it easier to become overwhelmed or shut down.

The goal isn’t to stay perfectly calm all the time. Everyone moves in and out of their window throughout the day. The aim is to recognize when you’ve left it and develop skills that help you return more easily and, over time, expand your capacity to handle stress.

Your goals matter. But so does the life you’re living while you pursue them.

It’s important to have goals, ambitions, dreams and a sense of purpose. They give us direction and something to work toward.

But don’t forget to enjoy your life in the process.

Don’t wait until you get the promotion.
Until the house is finished.
Until you lose the weight.
Until you have more money.
Until you feel “caught up.”
Until life finally feels the way you think it should.

Because there will always be another goal, another milestone, another thing to work toward.

And if we’re constantly waiting for the next thing to feel fulfilled, we can miss the life that is happening right now.

I love this post by Tj Power | Neuroscientist 📱

Your brain wasn’t designed for constant stimulation.

Every notification, endless scroll, and moment of distraction competes for your attention—and over time, it can reshape how you think, focus, and even feel.

But your nervous system also responds to the opposite.

A quiet morning. A walk without headphones. Reading a book. Sitting with your thoughts instead of reaching for your phone. Time in nature. Meaningful conversation. Even a few moments of boredom.

These are the best ways to reduce chronic stress, support your brain, improve attention, strengthen emotional resilience, and create space for creativity and deeper thinking.

Health isn’t only about what you eat. It’s also about what you consume with your eyes, ears, and mind every day.

Sometimes the most powerful medicine is creating enough space for your brain to function the way it was designed to.

Which one of these do you want to practice more often?

Healing isn’t only about working through what’s hurting. It’s also about recognizing how far you’ve come.

Sometimes the most meaningful part of therapy is pausing long enough to notice the growth that has been happening all along.

You don’t have to wait until you’re falling apart to benefit from therapy. Therapy can support you in building a life you want to keep growing into.

🤍 Every step forward deserves to be acknowledged.

New year, new outlook. Sometimes a shift in perspective changes everything

What if we asked ourself “what’s the best that could happen?”

Sometimes growth begins with curiosity instead of fear 🤍
