DISCLAIMER this page does not provide clinical interventions & is not crisis service *No previous art experience necessary to engage in Expressive Arts Therapy. The Expressive Arts is an approach that combines poetry & story telling, music & sound, visual arts, movement, drama, presence (and more) to foster deep personal growth and community development. When used therapeutically the expressive arts are a tool for self-discovery, self-care, self-reflection, connecting with our inner-wisdom and for creating our own clarity. It is a resource-based approach, where you can feel supported to explore your inner world. Through presence, my approach is unique to each client and my practice is moment specific, situation specific and person specific. As the client, you get to decide what questions to be with and how. As the practitioner, I will create a safe container for you to engage with your questions through the Expressive Arts. Together we will identify what works for you, and I will honour what you need. You can expect to come away from our time together feeling witnessed and connected. I came to Expressive Arts naturally, as in my personal life I have facilitated monthly women’s Circles for the past nine years. The purpose of these circles is to provide a safe space to foster a supportive community among women where we can tune into ourselves and our own intuition. I offer participants an opportunity to hold space for one another, practice self-reflection and engage with the creative process through journaling, meditation, poetry, music and conversation- all elements of an Expressive Arts practice! These monthly circles invite connection, healing and pause into all of our lives. As a host and facilitator, I curate a safe space and I promote increased well-being for myself and the women who attend these circles. I will draw from this experience and bring it into my practice as I support you. I started my own wellness journey when I attended my first yoga class at 14 years old. Then at 18, I began learning about presence and mindfulness and have continued to practice presence, mindfulness & various forms of meditation ever since. In addition to this practice, I read and write poetry, spend time with nature, dance in my living room and sing while I'm cooking. As a personal interest I also engage regularly with books, articles and podcasts on western psychology and Buddhist psychology. Expressive Arts has its roots in Indigenous ways of healing and I respectfully acknowledge that Indigenous cultures have used the arts for healing since time out of mind. Thank you for reading my bio and for considering me as your practitioner. Through a kind and compassionate approach, I look forward to supporting and igniting your creativity and path to wellness through the therapeutic use of the arts. Sharing this incredible documentary that my classmates and I got the privilege to preview this weekend in in our online class with Adriana Marchione. This film inspires, moves, stirs and widens my understanding of folks with substance use disorder and those in recovery. Here's hoping we will have access to it in Canada in the very near future!!!

Drug and alcohol addiction is a widespread and devastating issue in every community, and the opioid epidemic was named a public emergency in 2017. One in seven people face a substance use disorder in their lifetime, according to the U.S. Surgeon General. There is a revolution in recovery advocacy at this time and strong interest in films that offer resources for people with substance use disorders that highlight the gifts of recovery.

Research on the benefits of creativity is widely documented suggesting several outcomes for patients with addiction, such as decreasing denial, reducing opposition to treatment, providing an outlet for communication, and lessening shame. Viewing, discussing, and interpreting art can help in group discussions, and can motivate people with addictions to change, moving them away from reflection into a state of action.

The nine stories in The Creative High reveal the transformative quality of the creative process, empowering us to wake up to our true selves. The documentary offers insight, resources, and solutions for artists, their families, recovery communities and those in the mental health field around the globe.
